Re: Property bargains

I have an in-law who has been successfully trading in CDS property for over 40 years, and she would not hold the view that stock was low or in danger of running out. My personal view is that the bottom of the market will be strongly influenced by the effects of Greece, Podemos in November, Portugues...

Re: after the Greeks ...

Someone I completely trust in the financial sector with a wire into this stuff said to me last autumn that drachmas were being printed. I thought it either premature or alternatively, a reasonable precaution. In hindsight, it now seems profound. Updated 18:20 A fascinating few paragraphs: One man’s ...

Re: after the Greeks ...

Brussels appear to still be calling the shots in Greece. The Greek banks closed on EU instructions and now the Finance Minister has resigned because the Troika don't like dealing with him! I still think there will be a deal. Per the FT: Tsipras pushed Varoufakis (according to Syriza insiders) as an...

Re: after the Greeks ...

If so, we're now into the realms of reality, and it will all hinge on the repercussions, as versus all the two-sided propaganda. As Churchill said, "The first casualty of war is the truth." This is a culture war of the first magnitude - at least in recent decades.

Re: after the Greeks ...

It's a 'wake up and smell the coffee' event. So much of global economics is complex and frankly, confusing to even those I know in financial services. Greece puts a spotlight on the simple fact of 'debt needs repaying. If you can't make the repayments, don't take out the debt.' - a simple fact us me...

Re: after the Greeks ...

Spot on. In my time in the western USA, I knew plenty of people who lived away from the cities, and self-reliance was the byword. Useful lessons for those of us in 'civilisation' when things go wobbly. In England, two inches of snow causes a spate of panic buying in the supermarkets as well as a bre...

Re: Is it hot enough yet?

Blimey ! You lot are lucky you are not in the UK. Seems it could get as high as 28 here in the south today, and, pensioners are advised to stay indoors between 11am-3pm ! anyroads I manage a GP surgery in the Thames Valley, and always smile (as do the docs) when we get the usual NHS England 'Hot We...

Re: Benalmádena ayer y hoy

Not the source I'm looking for, but this has some useful stuff. My Spanish isn't up to it, but there's a translation tab: http://www.cti.uma.es/index.php?option= ... 6&Itemid=8 Edited: Here's the source I was looking for (rtve.es). Use 'buscar' and 'archivo' buttons with your keyword: http://www...

Re: Benalmádena ayer y hoy

Not as yet, but I joined the above Facebook group, and found loads of videos on it. I'll have a good look over the next day and get back to you. It's odd that the group's videos - mostly sourced from rtve.es - aren't on the latter's website in the same volumes. There may be an archive on that websit...

Re: Benalmádena ayer y hoy

For the Benalmádena video, I've found a link to a page 'Málaga ayer y hoy' that features Benalmádena.

I'll keep trying to find a link for those not on Facebook.

Benalmádena ayer y hoy

I had an rtve post on my Facebook page - Benalmádena ayer y hoy. I've not been able to find the source on the web in order to post here, but rtve.es has this: http://www.rtve.es/alacarta/videos/prog ... d/2480234/ I've been visiting the Costa for 29 years, but I thought it would be interesting for t...

Re: Grexit. Any impact on Spain day to day?

I don't think you can rely on Russia for anything. At the current burn rate the Russian Government will run out of sovereign reserves in 2016 and cannot borrow due to sanctions. By 2017 their country and economy will be in desperate trouble(coincidentally the 100th year anniversary of the Russian r...

Re: Grexit. Any impact on Spain day to day?

The fudge rumbles on. A heads of state on Monday. Talk about a train wreck in slow motion - or, one side is massively bluffing. Either way, it's irresponsible. You couldn't run a business this way, let alone nation states. Or has the EU created a disconnect between how business used to be done and r...

Re: Grexit. Any impact on Spain day to day?

Amazing that a tinpot country could cause so much havoc on the markets. All the stock markets are down including the UK. Spain's has done particularly bad. A few days ago interest rate on Spanish 5 year bonds doubled, albeit from a low point. Greece is damned if it does and damned if it doesn't it'...

Re: Grexit. Any impact on Spain day to day?

One immediate, tangible, indication is bond prices - in this instance, government debt/'loans'. Usually considered a dead cert, Germany's is next to zero percent; i.e. no risk/no return. The equivalent Spanish 10-year bond prices at one stage this week jumped 2.5% - the highest since last August - s...

What's the perspective of those on this forum, as you have a wider perspective than the average UK voter? How does belonging to a forum widen perspective? I'm curious as to whom or what is an average UK voter? It's statistically likely that forum members here will either live in Spain; visi...

EU referendum

The next media feeding frenzy. Between now and then, there are a number of potentially key events; Greece, November Spanish elections, etc. What's the perspective of those on this forum, as you have a wider perspective than the average UK voter? Polls are understandably discredited, but one showed t...
