Re: Pool chemical bucket

Yes they do work. They are great. We had one last winter and didn't need to give the pool any other treatment all winter. I've just gone out to look at the one which is floating in our pool at the moment and the wording on it is Treatemento Completo and you can buy them from fereterias or supermarke...

Re: salad all year round

The OH has been growing veggies for 4 years now and almost anything seems to grow at any time except mid June 'til mid September. Trying to grow anything then is just a waste of water! Best to aim to have crops finished by mid June or started for planting out mid Sept. It takes some getting used to ...

salad all year round

Isn't it great living here. The OH has just come in with some baby lettuce which he says will be ready to plant out in a day or two. (Hope it warms up a bit first) We still have lettuce and radishes ready for harvesting even at this time of year. They are growing happily alongside the caulies, roman...

Re: Good Quality Meat - well hung !!

I shall be interested to hear your comments as I have found in the past that frozen meat is never a patch on fresh. I wonder if they have got a new way of freezing?

Re: cleaning stainless steel

Having had a hardware shop I can give you a really good tip if you are buying stainless steel pans etc. As Tj found there are different grades and some of the cheaper ones are very poor, so... take a magnet with you. If the magnet sticks to the pan it is not wholely stainless and the harder it stick...

Re: Just leave it alone

I am just the opposite. Anything I touch imediately goes on the blink. Latest casualty our camera. I only picked it up to take one picture and it hasn't worked since. JUST LEAVE IT ALONE is what my OH screams at me whenever I approach anything mechanical.

You're not wrong. It is the same with Brenda P. on OCI. I can only asume that those who live on the coast have a lot more money to spend on that sort of thing than I do.

Could a new radio station be on the way? I believe Mary Harbo has also left REM. I certainly hope so, haven't found another station I can listen to to replace OCI :(

Re: Am I a 'Grumpy Old Man'.?

Wicksey you are really my kind of person :D The thing that makes me seriously grumpy is the sight of people getting through dozens of plastic bags; putting even 6 packs or dog food bags which already have handles into more bags. WHY!!!! I have my own shopping bags, including cool bags, in the...

Re: Are you suffering from wind...

Yep, it sure is windy and forecast to get worse and colder with it. We have given up trying to keep any patio furniture unless it is made of solid wood. I think we have supplied various plastic pieces to most of the houses in the valley  Where we are we can see right across the Guadalhorce Vall...

Cruz Roja

I have been wondering for some time how the Cruz Roja fits into the Spanish health system? I seem to remember reading somewhere that they are responsible for issuing certificates to say you are mentally fit to have a gun or a big dog, :?: but what else do they do.? For instance; we have a C.R...

Hear, hear, Beachcomber. Just because we love living here doesn't mean we are blind to it's faults. What I will say is that the list of things that are wrong with the UK now is so long that I would bore you all to death if I started to itemise them. Suffice it to say that they add up to a dar...

Re: WAter pipes reminder!

I always forget how cold it gets for you guys further north. Even though our house is over 700ft high and on the north side of the Guadalhorce valley we have only had one really frosty night,-4deg, since we came here 8 years ago. You obviously don't have to travel far north of us for a real ...

Re: Hunting

There are laws regarding hunting and to be fair they are largely adhered to in this area. Basicly the large areas designated for hunting are divided into smaller areas each of which is marked by green and white signs and given a number. These numbers are allocated to designated hunters by the gun cl...

Re: Pools and dogs

Excuse me P. I was not encouraging my dog to swim, all animals do that automatically. I was teaching her how to get out of the pool if she fell in accidentally and if you think that it is better that I should not have done so but let her drown from exhaustion because she could not get out then I am ...

Pools and dogs

Our little dog, Missie, hates water. She can go for hours without 'relief' if it is raining! When we filled our swimming pool, however, we decided to make sure she knew how to find the steps and get out. Poor thing how she hated it, but with patience we managed to teach her. We would take her into t...

Hunting

On Sunday we had to chase a hunter off our land. He was inside the red signs and, unfortunately, we did not spot him 'til after he had shot a rabbit. Today the OH watched a hawk take a small bird out of a bush and take it to his mate for her to eat. I think this really explains what hunting is about...

Re: Baggage tampered with at airport

I had a lot of gold jewelery stolen on a flight between Heathrow and Sydney Aus. About a year later I heard that a collection of baggage handlers in Sydney had been arrested so that was definately inbound. The experience taught me 2 things; one, never look for compensation as the airlines are not in...
