Re: advice repatriating money to UK

I was referring to the charges a Spanish bank would make. CD make no transfer charge. Whether or not their exchange rates are better or worse than others I know not. For the amount I transfer each month a couple of cents here and there are, quite frankly, hardly worth bothering over.

Re: On a Scale of 1 to 10 how high would you rate living in Andalucia??

We moved to Spain on retirement in 2004 and returned to the UK in 2014. At first the novelty factor of a life in the sun was very high - rather like an extended holiday. Dealing with illogical regulations and petty officialdom was a challenge. Eventually such things start to become a chore and an ir...

Re: advice repatriating money to UK

I use Currency Direct and am very happy with their service.
The monthly rent for our house in Alora is paid into my CD account at Caixa Bank. CD then transfer it into my UK bank at an agreed exchange rate. No charges are incurred. Works smoothly.

Re: procedure for selling a used car

I too bought a LHD car from them in 2004 to take with us when we moved to Spain. We had it in the UK for a couple of weeks before moving to Spain. I drove it in Spain (on UK plates) for about 6 months before the gestor in Spain re-registered it there for a relatively small sum (certainly a lot less ...

Re: procedure for selling a used car

Hi Miro, when I returned to UK in Dec 2014 I sold my Spanish registered car to the LHD place in Basingstoke. They offered me a price I was happy with. They gave me some Spanish documents to complete and sign. Don't ask me what they were (yes I know!). I assume they were to do with the sale/transfer....

Benidorm, surely a classic example of "smugness and arrogance" is British Immigrants in Spain calling themselves "expats"! I fear you fall into that trap!

Re: cancelling Movistar

When we left Spain I cancelled through their Customer Services. They mentioned the phone and router both of which we had replaced with our own purchases some while previously. I told them this and pointed out the originals would have been over 10 years old. They accepted it.

I can endorse Staysure. We used them each time we drove over from Spain and very easy to take out cover via the Internet.

Re: Britains Going To The Dogs-I'm Staying In Spain !!

Milton Keynes boasts 124 roundabouts (Basingstoke has a miserly 44)! Because of its grid layout every intersection has a roundabout. When we first moved here from Spain we thought we would never master the layout but eventually we did but I agree it can be a challenge at first. Getting bac...

Re: Transfer to UK NCB

How do premiums compare? In 2012 the premium for my Hyundai Santa Fe SUV with Linea Directa was €501. For the period Dec 2015 to Dec 2016 the premium (in Milton Keynes) for the current model of the Hyundai Santa Fe with LV is £498. Allowing for exchange rates and the fact that the current car is a l...

Re: Transfer to UK NCB

I returned to live in the UK in Nov 2014. Bought a new car here and had NO problem getting my UK Insurer to accept the Spanish NCB and they didn't ask for written proof!. I was with Linea Directa in Spain. Before I moved to Spain 10 years previously, I had been with Frizells ( now owned by Liverpool...

I don't think you need worry about Brexit in this context. If you previously had a UK licence then it's pretty straightforward exchanging a foreign one back to a UK one.

I also exchanged by Spanish licence when I returned to the UK last year. It was painless and there was no charge.

As indeed will first time buyers in the UK! I know you are only joking Lavanda because, of course, Osborne's calamity scenario will not happen. Incidentally, George seems to have vanished - now that's good news!

Re: Train from Malaga

I daresay you could book AVE Malaga - Cordoba and AVE Cordoba - Sevilla but it would cost far more than the direct Avant/MD fare Malaga - Sevilla! Is it worth it just to get free parking in Malaga?

Re: Train from Malaga

Country boy, the AVE does not go to Sevilla, only the Avant and MD and neither have first class accommodation.

If the OP is going for the day then parking at Malaga Station is affordable but it get's pricey the longer the parking period.

Mercadona sell what they call British bacon. Very lean but cut very thin, not like the thick slices in the UK!
