Re: access to carlos hoya hospital from motorway?

I know the Hospital Quiron very well as I've been there several times in the past. It is very near Los Patios and the Sports Centre. There is Parking in the basement of the building ( not free) but there is plenty of parking in the area. Los Patios is as good as any place to park. The tram station f...

Re: Portable Air Con units

I agree that portable aircon units are not very effective. The big problem with them is that you need an external outlet for the flexible tube which takes away the extracted heat. We used to hang it out of a partially open window which rather defeats the whole exercise. We eventually dumped it for p...

Re: hearing aid

For what it's worth, I was prescribed (yes getting really old now!) a pair of digital hearing aids at Boots late last year and they cost just over £820. They are very small and light and slip neatly over each ear and can barely be seen They were by no means the most expensive but were classed as mid...

Re: Alora

I lived in Alora for 10 years before returning to the UK in Nov 2014. Briefly the pros include good communications both by train and road. Easy to get to Malaga and the Airport. It has plenty of local shops including a good Mercadona Supermercado. Excellent countryside around it. If you consider bei...

Re: House Clearance needed - Competa

If you are selling the property why not sell " including contents". That's what we did as we didn't want to drag the stuff back to UK or the hassle of finding house clearance company. Sale price of house reflected sold with contents.

Re: What effect on us if GB leaves the EU?

Pamela1, you shouldn't play down the importance of the UK and its ability to survive in the larger world. That is exactly what Project Fear being pushed by the "remainers" want you to think! They downplay the future of the EU which is already on shaky ground - euro finances, immigrants pou...

Re: What effect on us if GB leaves the EU?

Girlingfoss, the link you posted above is to an Estate Agency trying to flog houses in Spain. Of course they are going to put their spin on this. As I wrote previously, voters in the UK are simply not going to even think about Brits who have upped sticks and moved to live elsewhere in Europe and why...

Why is someone living in Florida getting so worked-up over this? Just curious!

Re: can I be fined?

Costakid, you seem to be confusing the legal entitlement to be living and working in the UK ( which the penalty you quote relates to) and the legality of carrying out work ( qualified to do so), which has nothing to do with said penalty. I doubt the OP would be referring to the legal resident status...

Re: What do the Spanish think about a Brexit?

Mark, I can understand your concern but, quite frankly, Brits working in other EU Countries are not the concern of voters in the UK. Harsh but reality.

Well actually if you employ an illegal in the UK you are at risk of a£10000.00 fine..

What relevance does that have? The OP wrote that the guy doing the work is Spanish!

Re: What effect on us if GB leaves the EU?

White Horse, I agree with you. I do hope we vote OUT! A very rattled Cameron in the House yesterday, I wonder why? Today we have some Companies writing in the Times, at the behest of Cameron, supporting him. Surprise, surprise, Vodaphone being one of them, they of course, conveniently pay their taxe...

Re: Brexit/ Visa

In an other thread you were adamant the UK wouldn't leave! Had a change of mind then?

Insurance isn't tied to membership of EU. For example, there are Countries covered by the Green Card arrangements that are not in the EU.

Re: What effect on us if GB leaves the EU?

The social security benefits paid in Spain are far from comparable to those paid in the UK i.e. they are inferior or is that another misconception? If I am correct then it seems to me grossly unfair for us British taxpayers to have to provide outsiders with equal benefits. I guess I digress from the...

Re: What effect on us if GB leaves the EU?

El Cid wrote: The biggest issue will be health care as that is paid for by the UK. I doubt that this would change as it would clearly be manifestly unfair as all the EU residents remaining in the UK would retain their NHS rights as that is based on residency so how could a similar number of UK citi...

Re: Spanish Reg car to the UK

After reading the report by White Horse on the procedure for re- registering in the UK I'm glad I decided to sell and buy a RHD car! As to trying to sort out the headlamps and speedometer myself, that could affect the warranty (it had a 5 Year warranty) assuming I knew where to start! Just like driv...

Re: Spanish Reg car to the UK

They had all the relevant Spanish documents for me to sign. OK that's no guarantee that they will be processed but I have no reason to suppose they won't. If they aren't I doubt the Spanish Authorities have the ability to track me down in the UK at some future date! Fingers crossed!,

Re: Spanish Reg car to the UK

When I moved back to the UK in Nov 2014 I took my LHD Spanish registered car back with me. As it was less than 2 years old I planned to keep it a while. However, when I found out the cost of the things that needed changing - headlights and speedo (it was only calibrated in Klms) was- around £1,000 p...
