I never understand how people can be proud to be any nationality. Surely it is a random chance event where you were born.

Pride to me implies some sort of self-achievement and I think we can rule out birthplace origin as an achievement.

I think Spanish_Lad is just taking the mickey because of the reputation of Benalmadena. I haven't been there but The Times said the following: Torremolinos: the town’s tourist office points out that Torremolinos, the Spanish word for unspeakable horror, has “been a favourite location for many civili...

Lorraine, on the one hand you say you think the Spanish resent you but on the other you have described them as racist, stubborn, corrupt and lazy. Now who's being racist? I think too many people make sweeping generalisations about whole nations. The truth is probably that some Spaniards don't like y...

So many times you read "we are moving to Spain for a better life for our children". Raquel, I see you have made it here from expatfocus.com. For the other readers Raquel made a similar post on expatfocus.com several weeks ago and the forum disintegrated for a time. It seemed many members t...

We were in Valencia needing to get back to Alicante for a flight once and we did just that from one airport to another, about 200 km apart. It wasn't very expensive and we had the day to tour around and enjoy the drive as we had hours to kill.

UK Freeview box in Spain

Sorry if this has been asked already but I've done a search and couldn't find an answer. Basically, does anybody know if a UK Freeview receiver will pick up Spanish digital terrestrial programs via an aerial? I'm talking about terrestrial signals here i.e. no satellite and I know I won't be able to ...

Kitchen unit sizes in Spain

Hi,

Could anybody tell me what the standard kitchen unit sizes are in Spain?
I need to sketch a new kitchen plan for our builders. I think UK kitchen units come in sizes such as 600 or 500 mm and half units are also available but what about Spanish kitchens?

My flat is in a block of 22 and the block itself is surprisingly quiet at night. My Spanish neighbours seem to be tucked up in bed by 11:30 pm. Katy is right about the lack of soundproofing generally, plus the hard surfaces (tiled floors etc.) seem to exacerbate the sounds of your immediate neighbou...

Katy you're right about the guide taking you to a relative's shop - carpet shop in my case. I don't like getting hassled either. A workmate just returned from Turkey and said he got pestered all the time but it doesn't sound as bad as Morocco from what he said.

Yes exactly - I used to think you would only need a guide so you don't get lost. In reality, having a guide is the only way to avoid constant hassle!
They are not cheap either!

It must be 12 years since I was in Morocco. We booked a package tour - one week in a 4 star hotel in Tangier. We knew we wanted to tour around so I also booked a hire car for 6 days. Tangier was definitely heavy going - I tried every approach to dealing with the street kids such as being polite, com...

Well my problem is the opposite - I earn pretty good money in the UK and as much as I would like to relocate to Spain I know I could never get the type of job I do here in Spain. I'm also too young to retire so that is not an option either. Also, I would imagine that if your mate was a Spanish bus d...

Re: What!!!!!!

La Basura is trash or rubbish like you would throw in a dustbin.

I guess it means "The trash of today and before" or something close.
