Thanks Lion - more food for thought I guess.

I think the work situation is my biggest show stopper to making the move. Hope you manage to sell your house. I had a look when you put the link up and thought it looked pretty nice.

Lion and Katy,

You have both mentioned the poor state of education for children. Is this true? Is it really so bad?

I only ask as I have a baby boy and if I did move to Spain he would have to go to a Spanish school.

I have used Centauro and Record several times and don't have any real complaints. You do need to check the small print with any car-hire and I believe sometimes it is worth paying an optional extra insurance top-up to limit your maximum liability. I payed about £14 extra for one such policy and it p...

I find the opposite - The Spanish seem to understand me quite well but I often don't understand the reply!

Mike,

I was talking about Playa de Gandia, not Gandia itself.

I know lots of Brits are moving to this general area including Oliva, Pego etc. maybe thanks to Amanda Lamb and "place in the sun".

But what are you saying, that this area is as bad as the worst in CDS? I still don't think so.

I think there is a tendency here to mix yobbish nuisance behaviour with hardened career criminal activities. The Brits are certainly guilty of the former, but the jails are probably full of thieves, drug dealers, car-jackers etc. and many of these will be from Africa, Eastern Europe, South America a...

Strictly speaking I don't think the "tu" is necessary because "sabes" is quite unambiguous, unlike sabe where you might throw in an usted to be clear what you mean. Sorry Spanish Lad, couldn't resist. :D

Sid, Thanks for the advice. As it happens I'm quite happy with my 4.2 or 4.4 Kw supply as it stands. I use gas for cooking and heating water and an electric heater during the colder months. My immediate problems are bathroom and kitchen rennovations and improving my Spanish! The question was raised ...

Bongtrees, I have heard that it can be expensive to increase your potencia and is not just a case of swapping the fusebox breakers for higher rated ones. For example, my flat is on the 5th floor and to upgrade might involve the electric company rewiring from the meter on the ground floor to my flat....

You need to check the maximum power rating of your elecricity contract and connection. It appears on my electricity bills (from memory) as the word "potencia" and for me is a paltry 4.2 KW. That means that I cannot draw more than a maximum of 4200 watts at any time or my breaker will trip out. 4.2 K...

Well I'm not sure about having a bombona on my back cos I don't know what it is. Apologies for thinking Frank and Kevin77 were the same person - it's just that there have been (apparently) many people here with multiple ids and you do seem to sing the same old tunes around here. If I did move to the...

Kevin77, you have an amazing propensity for gross generalisations. You instantly pigeon-hole me into some sort of Cheshire country-type. Well ok, it gets worse. I'm a Scouser who happens to live in Cheshire. So I guess I would pinch your car wheels given half a chance, whilst wearing green wellies d...
