Re: Alhaurin El Grande

I crossed the road (Gerald Brenan) on Saturday night to avoid walking through one of those "WOTCHOOLOOKINGAT?", finger jabbing snarly altercations between a group of British cretins. I rate the town very highly for catering options, but there is some weird connection with thuggery there. T...

Re: Motoring Museum in Malaga.

It really is very good. Even non car-people like me and my mum loved it. BTW the John Lennon car is a copy.

Police state?

Because of a change in circumstances I am now doing much more driving than before. Every day I am spending two to three hours, mostly on secondary roads between Malaga, the Guadalhorce Valley and the coast and I just can't believe how many police cars I am seeing. I see them doing speed checks on lo...

New car offers - what's the catch?

I'm after a new Citroen and have been comparing prices on the aggregator sites that are the first returned by a web search. One in particular has the model I want at a couple of thousand less than its competitors. Are these prices typically as is, or would they be dependent on taking financing or so...

Re: Who should be on the Padron?

I can confirm that the person in the town hall has an attitude. My Spanish is fluent but she looks at me like she has to try really, really hard to understand when I'm speaking. I'd only just managed to reinstate myself on the padron at the old address (that took four visits, because of her). Now it...

Who should be on the Padron?

I should know this, but the jobsworth at the Ayuntamiento is trying to see how many times she can make me visit to sort things out. The situation is: We've just moved to a new, rented house. The landlords live in Britain. I tried to register with my new address this morning and was told that I could...

Creative, legal and non-violent deposit recovery

I have just left a rented house after 8 very happy years. Every penny owed was paid on time, no damage was caused to the property, six weeks notice were given etc etc. The landlord has decided that the full two months deposit will just about cover the redecoration(NB redecoration not repairs) he wan...

Re: Taxes for non-resident landlords. Help please

I'm a bit slow this morning. Am now following. :lolno: Trouble is that my own tax return requires me to say where I live, who owns it and how much rent I pay. Someone, somewhere gets in trouble.

Re: Taxes for non-resident landlords. Help please

I've just found this : When taxpayers are resident in another European Union member state, the expenses described in the Law on Personal Income Tax can be deducted when calculating the taxable base, provided that the taxpayer provides proof that these expenses are directly related to income earned i...

Re: Taxes for non-resident landlords. Help please

I wish I were being offered a free house in exchange for some light gardening duties. It looks like the whole arrangement is now rather unattractive from the landlord's point of view. I was already going to have to discuss the need to declare in both countries, but the non-deductibility part might b...

Re: Taxes for non-resident landlords. Help please

Well he shouldn't be worried about that because I'm the possible tenant and I'm as pure as the driven snow. I just want to be sure that all parties know what they are getting into.

Taxes for non-resident landlords. Help please

Apologies if this is going over old ground, but everything I've seen refers to tourist lettings only. I'm trying to advise a British non-resident owner of a house in Spain who wishes to find longterm tenants. Does he need to submit a quarterly declaration or is that just for holiday homes? We've als...

Re: Benahavis river walk

I suspect you are not familiar with this one. It involves wading and swimming down a narrow shaded canyon.
Summer is the only time you would do it, although not if there is no water.

Benahavis river walk

Could anyone comment on whether it's worth doing the canyon this summer? I'm concerned that the drought will have left it green and gunky.

Re: Anyone else prevented from voting?

And another mystery from me: Today, with the help of a couple of digital certificates, I accessed the padron and voter records on the INE website. I was surprised to see that the wife and I were both listed as voters but neither of us was on the padron. No idea what that means as one is supposed to ...

Re: Anyone else prevented from voting?

Argentina certainly got into trouble with the IMF for making up their inflation figures. If a country is in receipt of massive subsidies and has a national debt close to 100% of GDP then those who supply the cash would like to be confident of their economic analysis.

Re: Anyone else prevented from voting?

I just thought I'd resurrect this thread to report that ten days after contacting PP, PSOE, UPyD, IU, INE and the mayor of Coin on this subject not one of them has replied. It's almost like it was deliberate.... It definitely seems that different regions and towns have their own policies about 2/5 y...
