Re: 2018 road trip to the Casa. More ideas like last year please.

When I lived in SW France we used to often go into Spain through the Bielsa tunnel south of St Lary Soulan. We used to visit Ainsa for the day which is a pretty little mountain town. On our trips to Andalucia we would continue on via Huesca and Zaragoza then Madrid and south. We often had our cats o...

Re: New Indian Torrox Costa

Oh dear that's a shame. We've only ever eaten their lunchtime menu for around 10€ which we always found tasty and well made.

Re: Fuel prices

For some reason the diesels we've had have always seem a stronger more trouble free car. We live in the campo and need 4x4 otherwise I'd be glad to have a little runaround. We fill the back up with wood in the winter and it has great load space for Ikea purchases etc as we can fit 2m boxes in the ba...

Re: Cleaning products

I use Mercadona's lejia+detergente in square 2L bottles. It's much thicker than normal watery bleaches. Ammonia is horrible stuff .... smells like wee .... can't imagine why people want to use it. For floors I use Mercadona's aloe vera floor wash (in pale green square bottles) and that has a nice sm...

Re: Internet supplier

The Wimax is usually unlimited and is not via a 4G mobile phone, it comes from their own aerials/transmitters dotted about the campo/Costa. I regularly watch catch up on my smart TV and get a good reception when I have less than 4mbps. I understand from others on here that you don't need a lot of mb...

Re: gota fria this weekend?

Just had a good old fashioned downpour and thunder storm .... I can hear the garden gratefully rehydrating! Can't wait to get out and do some gardening now whilst the ground is saturated. We can't do anything much in the summer months other than try to keep things alive with irrigating, but it's nev...

Re: Fuel prices

If that is the case then it will certainly affect everyone I know. All our camposino neighbours drive ancient old vans and cars, all diesel, and I can't imagine them being very happy to pay so much. It would influence our next car purchase, although I really want to stick to diesel if I can.

Re: gota fria this weekend?

There's a lot of rumblings now but the hugest patch of rain according to the radar pics is over Murcia way at the moment. When we watched the weather prog on Antena the other day it showed rivers of hails running down the street somewhere in Rioja. All summer there have been very bad storms in the n...

Re: Japanese souffle pancakes

I have a 1986 cookery book with a recipe for what is described as a French sweet soufflé omelet which looks very similar, it just needs flour to make it into a batter mix it seems. Looking at recipes for the Japanese ones they look quite tricky to get right .... look tasty though!

Re: Fuel prices

From what I've read the new diesel engines are no worse than and older petrol. I much prefer diesel and if we change our car we were going to buy a new diesel rather than petrol. Diesel in Spain is still far cheaper than petrol but we'll have to see if that changes. I've just rented a petrol car and...

Re: humidity this summer

We have felt it was more humid this August but as everywhere is bone dry I'm not sure where it's coming from! I find it is the humidity that is makes the heat feel so much worse.

Re: "You have no Data Connection" android mobile

That's what I tried to do unsuccessfully. The local phone shops wanted to charge so I thought I'd do it myself :? My UK SIM was about 7 years old and the card didn't have the nano size option. With the first Smart phone I ever bought the girl in the shop did cut down my old Spanish SIM, put it in th...

Re: "You have no Data Connection" android mobile

As Gerry said, it should do Peter, that's how I have changed phones although the set up of everything took me about a day as on one of them I hadn't saved my contacts to the SIM before moving it! It's not the phone part that I find complicated but setting up syncing for the emails etc, although once...

Re: Internet supplier

If you need a wireless ISP like BB4S then you need to be in direct line of sight of their aerial. Even though we have a good view of the Costa we only have one ISP that can supply us as other companies aerials are just out of sight behind us. Are you in the village or in the campo? There may be a la...

Re: Slates, wood or plates?

That's true, plus you don't eat off it but take the food off to put onto your own plate. I would think it doesn't stay on there long. The wooden plate is the worse as it will get cut by knives as people eat from them. On a slightly different note, I see a lot of TV chefs now put their raw chicken on...

Re: Cleaning products

I buy Mercadona's own brands of 'cillitbang' type of cleaner, plus their 'quita grasas' for cleaning the cooker and their antibacterial spray for cleaning around the loo etc. I find all their own brand stuff works fine. For washing liquid and fabric conditioner I've always use either Lidl, Carrefour...

Re: Slates, wood or plates?

I was recently served up a meal in Granada on a wooden plate (it happened to also contain a very long blond hair, so it was sent back, not eaten and not paid for!). I hate anything other than a plate to eat off. How can they possibly get anything wooden clean as you will cut into it with your knife ...

Re: “Expats” or “Immigrants”

I wrote about travel insurance for expats because that's how the UK tends to refer to us British who have moved abroad (I Googled 'travel insurance for expats' in order to find a UK company who will cover me). We could be referred to as emigrants by the UK, although expatriate also has the same mean...

Re: High Interest Bonds

I haven't received anything like that but I don't get many unsolicited emails. Presumably you have given your email to someone or some institution that deals in financial services? Like you, I think it seems too good to be true and you know what that means usually!!

Re: Travel Insurance

I tried statins but they gave me awful joint pains so I came off them. As my blood pressure is always on the low side I am not too worried at the moment. My father had hardening of the arteries but lived to 93. My cholesterol is way beyond borderline (over 9 in UK measurements, although it tends to ...
