Postby silver » Fri Mar 23, 2007 12:32 pm

computers gone wonky,,,
one of the things it tells me is CMOS battery low...whats that :?:
time time is wrong and gives out sept 2001 as date and clock in right hand corner starts at 0:00...I have reset time but when start it just goes back again...
when starting a black page comes up and at the bottom says
F1 to run set up..this option opens blue window and have tried some options but nothing changes
F2 tp load defalt values and continue...this just goes to start page.
Thanks :)

CMOS Battery is the computer's internal battery, that is used to maintain time and date.

If the computer is saying the battery is low, I presume the battery will have to be changed.

I'm afraid that's the extent of my knowledge on the subject, but hope it helps!

Hi Silver,

Yes it is a battery on the mainboard of the computer. Usually a flat round battery the size of a coin. Your computer will probably work ok still but every time you turn it on you will lose date and time information.

Depends on how brave you are - do you want to try to fix it yourself or take the computer to a shop?

The battery is usually quite accessible. Just ease it out and take it to a computer shop for a replacement. Make sure you check which way up it is inserted.

Try not to disturb any of the other components and discharge yourself of static electricity before opening the case. I usually work on the innards of my computers sitting barefoot in a chair with my feet on the tiled floor.

changing the cmos battery is about a 3 minute job you can do it yourself in seconds. take the case off / open the case, look on the main board for a small flat "watch" battery. take it out, take it to the watch shop or wherever and get a new one, fit it back in and done thats it. case back on and ur sorted.

I did try..found the battery, but could not get it out...well I did not try hard..cos I was not sure if I had got the right bit...so took it down the shop... 15€ and half hour job..for battery and fix.
Thanks everyone anyway...maybe next time I will have a go
