Marmite!

Postby daisylou » Sun Mar 25, 2007 12:49 pm

My parents have just visited us for a week and as my 9 month old baby had developed a taste for marmite I asked them to bring us 2 large jars which they did.....but.......they bought it in their hand luggage  and it was taken from them at Bristol airport!!!!!!!
I told them to put it in the suitcase but Mum said she was worried incase it got broke

Hoping it's not too long before someone else wants to visit us

I´m sure I´ve seen it in Hipercor, the supermarket bit of El Corte Ingles! Also in Dunnes Stores but maybe there isn´t one of their branches near you! :(

Got my jar at Dunnes yesterday.

Most of the Brit run grocery stores also seem to stock it.

Daisy lives in sevilla don't know what supermarkets they have there? Is there a Supersol? they sell it. Think there is a place where you can order Brit goods online.

Marmite, Oxo..
.Well due to my long running posting on oxo and marmite, I am now probably a leading authority on supplies of both, so if you have any real trouble in finding supplies I could consider publishing my findings in booklet form, who knows , it could be a 'best seller'..

Most supermarkets on the coast sell Marmite. Certainly Al Campo, Eroski, Euromarket, Mercadonna and Supersol do.

Thanks for the replys....we haven't had any luck finding marmite but as the jar is almost empty we are heading out this week to try and locate some

The 'english shop' in Estepa don't have it but I think there is a similar shop in Mollina which carries more stock so we shall take a trip there!

Have looked in Mercadona and Eroski with no luck.

Will keep you posted :D

Oh.....El Cid.....Guiness marmite  think I'll give that a miss!!

British Allsorts in Estepa usually have Marmite - it's run by the same family as the Brit shop in Mollina so just ask them to bring you up a jar, they're very helpful.

Hi
You are probably looking in the wrong aisle. The Spanish usually put it with the coffee etc !!! Find peanut butter and you may find it alongside!

We have seen peanut butter but only in a small jar and we felt it was expensive,

Hadn't thought to look by the coffee for marmite but will try it :D

If you are really desperate you can get it on Ebay. Is there nothing you can't get on Ebay?

I usually bring a large jar of marmite over from the UK in my suitcase. The large jar in the UK is about the same price as the small jar in Spain.

We had some visitors once - three adults and two children - who had marmite and toast for breakfast every morning of their week's stay. I was a bit peeved to find that they had used a large amount of my six monthly supply!!

Depends on the make of peanut butter. The best IMO is Captain Mani - an American brand imported to both Spain & UK - worth the extra over Sunpat.

Marmite

Postby concorde » Mon Mar 26, 2007 2:00 pm

I still can't understand why Guiness Marmite is selling on e-Bay, there are still loads of it in most supermarkets.
it's being advertised as special edition, only a certain amount made etc but there does not seem to be any shortage.

Anyway I hate Marmite, but have bought a jar anyway, and wait for everyone else to sell out, then swoop in and make my fortune!

Heston.....we do have a carrefour not too far from here, next time we're passing I will take a look, thanks.

Retro P.....we were in Benalmadena at the weekend!!

Pig might fly....it was captain mani that we saw in the supermarket, we did buy one from carrefour but when we tried to buy it from mercadona they only had a small jar and it was nearly as dear as the large one so we will wait until we visit carrefour again and buy it there :D
