Intercambios are great.. you just have to be careful that they don't turn into a drinking fest.. or something else.

The thing about kids and learning. I read a great article once which proved (as I remember) that pushing kids doesn't work. Allow them the space and time and they will flow into it. Anybody any experience of that?

On the question of Skype,I have this and it is a great tool and saves lots of cash on calls, for a small sum you can even use it to phone other land lines, although the basic peer to peer system is free .
I am particulaly interested in using it in Spain as the signal for mobiles where we are is very bad.

Possibly not the one to one you were hoping for but I think the BBC Languages site is fantastic, and since Ryanair will be allowing mobile phones on board from July, I will definitely be plugged in to my Walkman on the flight, with my Spanish lessons, or I might have to kill the first passenger that shouts ' I'm on the plane, on my mobile'

I like the idea of being in the local bar, the minute I take out my Spanish/English phrasebook or dictionary, I am usually surrounded by Spanish men, offering to buy drinks and chat. Brilliant. My husbad usually lurks at the bar, talking Spanglish mixed in with French and Italian when he's had a few, and very fluent he is too (not) Trouble is no-one understands him, but he always managed to get another beer. The universal language of holding an empty glass up!

Michell Thomas courses are a good start apart from his accent.
The Pimsleur full course is very good (although with S American Spanish - a few differences to note) but is very expensive unless you can get hold of a "copy". The full course is 90 half hour lessons on CD, retails for over £500!!
