British woman killed

Postby swerve » Sat Jan 05, 2008 5:34 am

A British woman died after being stabbed at her home in the southern town of Coín, near Málaga, Spain. The Civil Guard named the victim as Deborah Hatto, 42, after officers arrested her German partner, 59, at the house in the early hours of yesterday morning. The woman lived with the man, who has not been named, and her ten-year-old daughter.

I think it is useful for people to put on relevant news items..thanks from me anyway. I manage to ignore things that don't interest me.

BTW (for anyone interested  ) The man actually rang the woman's Mother in the UK to say he had killed her. The UK Police had to contact local Police.

I like the news items too. I don't always catch up with everything on every forum or every news site.

This was the first site where I read about the Dakar rally cancellation.

So those of you who write up relevant news posts for this region, thanks.

:( If you want snippets of local news read the newspapers, listen to local radio (all available on-line if you are not in Andalucia). If you want to discuss an item of news then yes, this forum is great, but just to post an irrelevant piece of tragic news for no apparent purpose seems illogical.

No harm done, surely - especially for those who do not live here all the time?

Peter...really:lol:

If anyone doesn't like the news snippets they can always go and read the really interesting threads, such as the ones about residencia, NIE, wealth tax, driving licenses......the same old questions and answers over and over and over again.

Keep the local news items coming.

:( Perhaps management will start a new forum they could call it: Old Snippets with no Constructive Comment. Sounds as though it might be popular.

A few years ago, on the suggestion of Ana Manzano in the Andalucia.com office we had a forum section consisting of news reports. Members were encouraged to comment. There were hardly any comments posted. Concluding that members were more interested in day to day issues than news, we removed the section. Should it be reinstated?

I'm on another forum with a news section and people rarely comment on the news posts.

But they invariably do have something  to say to anything on the main discussion forum.

I would say leave as is for now. This thread is certainly attracting comments.

Thanks for posting it swerve, as I hadn't heard about it. Even when I lived there I found that news items that affected ex-pats were not top priority for the spanish media. How awful for the womans daughter :(

Andalucia
I think the section could be reinstated or Swerve or anyone else for that matter should continue to post in the General section.

At first I thought what Swerve was doing was irrelevant but because he quotes from news sources and provides a lot of information I think it's good.

I read what catches my eye or interests me and headlines like 'British woman killed' and 'Teenage missing' certainly catch the eye.
If the subjects catch my eye I find the news item in the Spanish press which is good practice for improving vocabulary.

I also think it should have it own news section, then it is easier to ignore that section if one is not interested.

The news items read as though they have been copied from elsewhere and they could be subject to copyright laws - it's probably better to put a link to the original just to be on the safe side!
