Being a fan of the red wine sundowner I have tired, in the past, of drinking 'mulled wine' due to the hot Spanish summer. Not any more. A small outlay in Aldi purchased a red wine cooler. What joy. Wine at the right temp whenever you want it  Not only that but try putting your chocolate bars in the cooler too. Yum Yum!! They come out positively asking to be eaten.

Sounds like a good buy - and just in time now the weather has warmed up!

Make sure it's dark chocolate - it is said that red wine and dark chocolate are good for you. And I refuse to read anything else that says otherwise!

Surely these coolers are meant for white wine?
Red wine is meant to be drunk "chambre" - or at room temperature, and the room should be one at midday in Provence!
Many years ago my OH and I went to Paignton for a family 'do' and stayed in a small hotel, which may well have been one of the models for Fawlty Towers. Apart from refusing me breakfast becuse I had the temerity to come down at 9 am - on holiday - I asked for a glass of red wine wih my evening meal. He proudly served it, saying that it should be lovely as it had been in the cooler for some hours..........

Depends where the wine has been stored. Red wine left in the kitchen whilst cooking can be too warm and need chilling slightly. Don't do what OH did, realised a red was far too warm and slipped it into the freezer. He forgot and I found it the next day

has anyone else found it oddly strange, how some restaurants here serve the red wine ice cold and the white wine at room temp? We have come across this in 4 different restaurants now. Not that it has stopped me drinking the wine!!

Sorry, Peteroldracer; these boxes are meant for red wine. They keep the wine at between 16 and 18 degrees, which is the room temperature that red wine should be served at; not the room temp of up to 25 degrees we get here. Buy one, try one, you will love it. :D

My worst experienced in a well-regarded, high class restaurant was a glass of Taylors Special Reserve port with my cheese and biscuits that was served ice cold.

I now make a point of asking them to take it out of the 'fridge on my arrival!

Reminds me of one supposedly up-market place. They supplied really small glasses for the red wine. When asked to bring larger glasses the young waiter brought pint beer glasses
