working from home

Postby littleeak » Tue Jun 01, 2010 7:31 pm

I’m looking to work from home ...... data input or similar.
I’ve heard that there are dodgy companies out there. Has anyone actually done this type of work & could recommend any legit companies?
Any advice appreciated.

Home being in Andalucia??

As Spain is a country where there is a significant and endemic lack of forward planning and forethought be prepared to be at the beck and call of whomever employs you, check your seg social is being paid or whether you are required to be autonomo (my bet is the latter) and be ready for 8 hours work at 2 hours notice.....

I have a friend who does this along with online translation etc.......

I have very little knowledge of these companies. Will just say that someone I know spoke very highly of the internet company she worked for. She finished up an inmate of Alahurín prison.

Thanks for info.

Yes I am based in Andalucia but it doesn't matter where in the world the companies are.
Does your friend work for a Spanish company. Jool?

Sounds like care is needed when selecting companies to work for ................ don't want to end up like Katy's friend!

What matters is where you, the employee, or autonomo is working as you have to ensure that you and the company employing you complies with spanish law. My friend worked for both spanish and english companies, latterly the spanish company was the main one and she was employed by them. It was as chaotic as I described including work arriving at 5pm to be completed for the next day, 5 or 6 hours worth sometimes and she has given up because of this it was impossible to have a life and do this kind of work at the same time.

Take a look at www.elance.com to find work that fits your own timetable and desired income. I've used it only as a buyer of services (translations), but it worked out extremely well for me. I think that people around these parts would do well do reduce their reliance on the local labour market and its many peculiarities and take advantage of the power of the WWW.
Good luck.

If it's so easy and profitable why isn't everyone doing it

i worked online last year and im trying to get back into it. theres 4? at least, forum members doing the same job i did right now.

we were all on around 1000€ + / - / month basic plus overtime. its all legal, if you pay the autonomo and declare everything.

but no, theres no easy way into it. its difficult, its hard work, its alot of hours... but its rewarding, with no traveling costs and you can still spend time with the kids / family.

Spanish_lad, how did you get into it?

I've joined 'Freelancer' & 'elance' but no luck yet. The 'data input' sites look a bit dodgy!

sent a cv, had a couple of recommendations from people already doing it, and had an email to start a few weeks later - a bit like any normal job :)
