They are also paying something like £147 million a year child benefits to kids born abroad after their parents have left the UK. You could not make it up.

To answer your question, Mowser, the UK governments are too apathetic and, basically, too stupid.

Lavanda

It is not a matter of if they can do it, they can do it but only if they change the whole benefits system for EVERYONE and that is the sticking point, people who have paid in all their lives will complain that they have paid in to receive the benefits they need when they need them i.e. unemployment etc., and disability and will not stand for them all being withdrawn (not even if it means they can look forward to seeing foreigners not getting any !)

Also, don't you think the government would love to withdraw all or the majority of benefits for everyone if they could get away with it, all that lovely money they would have at their disposal to send abroad in foreign aid !

There would be plenty of spare cash to go around if they stopped giving immigrants benefits and that includes those from the EU. Crazy system, the UK should have like for like. eg. Britains have to fulfill a set of requirements to live in Spain including proof of income and health ins. therefore the UK should impose the same on any Spaniard entering the UK. or any other country. They come in to work for minimum wage and get hundreds of pounds per week top-up benefits  Why not stick two fingers up to brussels, what can they do except kick us out

I don't see any starving Pensioners in the UK. they are allover the place, dining in restaurants, taking trips out, shopping for food in M&S etc. Visit any major attraction and they are there in force., also in the London Theatres, majprity are elderly. The grey pound is an aid to the UK economy...very valuable. Infact, many pensioners pay tax to help keep the immigrants

I agree to an extent Katy but you wouldn't see the millions who are housebound would you, especially as it is in the news constantly that we have a "loneliness" epidemic amongst the elderly. Of course if Cleggy gets his way, they will remove the Bus Passes which will make the problem 100% worse and increase the NHS bill by keeping fit pensioners imprisoned in their homes when they can't afford the bus fares (who can with a minimum of £2 a trip one way?)

Of course what should have happened is that countries who didn't have a uniform set of benefit rules should not have been allowed to join, all they are doing is preying on the better off countries to bolster their economy whilst impoverishing the ones they travel to. It can never be right that all the Eastern European's poorest are encouraged to come to the UK for benefits, either they need to stop it in the EU or allow us to close the borders. If not we will be pushed out of our own country. I have always said it would have been far better to continue with foreign aid into these countries including Eastern Europe and a way of monitoring where the money goes, than the current system of freedom of movement.

What about the to-do in Tower Hamlets where council officials were holding meetings with questions being raised and answered in Bangladeshi ? Now an MP said it has to stop, apparently there is no law to say the meeting has to be carried out in English  For goodness sake don't these MP's know anything that is going on right outside their front door? Obviously not

You couldn't make it up !

Tower hamlets council should have been disbanded years ago for election fraud and corruption...just another few cultural things they have brought into the UK along with TB, rickets etc.

Albania waiting in the wings.....I have been to that hole. About on par with the Roma

TB, rickets, etc...... all those good things Cameron fails to include in the "net benefits" of immigration into the UK! TB can cost up to £50,000 to treat per person   What country in its right mind allows the world and its son into it at 200,000 pa without making them have medicals. Absolutely insane.

Cameron couldn't navigate his way to his own backside if you ask me let alone run a competent government on behalf of its people !

... and I now read the the union "Unite" wand Ed to include an in/out EU referendum in the next labour manifesto. He reckons that if they don't, they won't win the election.

Let's hope that Unite make it a condition of their £10million donation, that will ensure the union doesn't get its foot in the door of Labour party policies. Milliband would rather eat his own stomach than offer a Referendum to the British people because he doesn't trust them to know what is good for them. In other words he believes democracy is no longer a right for the British people.

Arrogant judgmental **** !
