Don't have any sympathy for these people ... must be terribly thick to watch Place in the Sun and think .... yeah, I'll do that .... never been to France or speak a word of French but never mind, eh? Spent far too much on a semi-restored house in the middle of nowhere they bought off the internet then complain as the French won't give them handouts (it's not like Britain you know  )

Yes Beach, that's the one. Sorry about that. Will not try to post again!

I am just amazed that people move having done no research at all move their families to a foreign country. If you were on your own, fair enough, but shoving kids in school in another language in their teens is truly awfull.

Maybe she should have watch all the programmes about people failing abroad, which I am sure well exceed the success stories! And buying a family home on the internet belies belief. It is not as if France is the other side of the world.

I do feel a bit sorry for some of them (the couple with the farm for example), but by & large, they've only got themselves to blame. It's unbelievable how many people leave their brains at the border

Seen it happen a lot in Spain too. Place in the Sun type programmes have a lot to answer for! Still see newbies on forums wanting to do the same. We aren't supposed to say anything though or we may be accused of being negative.

I 'm normally very positive but there's a new poster on another thread planning something with "OMG Don't Do It" written all over it but has anyone written that? No! I'm worried about her. The spirit of pioneering Brits abroad is one thing - being totally nuts is another. (Only in my opinion, of course).

Ahhhh got it now. I think it's to do with hands and clay. I'll have to read it again. Sometimes you have to do what your heart tells you and not your head. c'est la vie

Agreed, Swerve but sometimes you also need to be encouraged to think with both. I think.

Yes totally agree. It seems Spain does not encourage small businesses. I bet there are loads of people out there that are either trading illegally or just haven't bothered to try to start up a bussiness because of the fact that they have to pay €250 euro or whatever the cost is even if they aren't making that much of a profit. I know someone will come back and say yes but that includes social security but it's still a lot to pay every month if your not making that much or even worse if your making a loss.
