The Geminids shower will peak tonight, and I know a few like lying under the stars watching. If tonight is anything like last then it will be a really good night for it. Clear, very little moonlight. There were a few around last night when I was following the dogs round the campo.
The table gives the position of the radient, that's where they appear to be coming from.

Re: El Geminids
Thanks Lyric, I will venture outside for a look but it's not quite the same as lying in the pool waiting for the Perseids in August!
Re: El Geminids
Result. Looked in the direction from your chart. Quite a few coming from east to West approx. Fast and not very bright so I guess small lumps. What was also interesting were other seemingly random but similar ones.
I would love to find a meteorite one day.

Re: El Geminids
Result here too! Taking dogs out for their early morning walk (0715), saw almost a dozen - including a best-ever, with a triple tail, that appeared to explode as it streaked. Amazing!

Grand, one is pleased that some result was achieved.
I'll try and get the same information for the Quadrantids about Jan 4th from memory.
It is just knowing where to look isn't it.

Re: El Geminids
Quadrantids? Are you just making these names up! Sounds like something off the Star Wars film...
Re: El Geminids
Not at all, there are three major showers through the year and many more minor ones, but the three offer the best chance of visual observation. The Geminids, just passed, the Quadrantids around January 4th, and the Persids around 12th August.
Just had a little read and it would seem that the Quads may be a waste of time in 2018 as they will almost co-inside with one of those moon perigee events. Big bright full moon = can't see meteors.

Re: El Geminids
I saw one as I popped outside last night, just falling from the sky towards the horizon towards the east, so that's better than nothing! It felt bitterly cold to me last night so I didn't hang around to look for any more unfortunately.
