Re: Merry Christmas
Well you lot are starting early but why the hell not, A merry christmas and a happy and prosperous new year to all.
I have devised a new way to eat mince pies this year, warm your mince pies for a few mins in a pre heated oven 120 c, remove from the oven and pipe into the top some thick, whipped bavarian cream, eat immediately, luvverly and different !!

Yes, Good yuletide to all. We are having a quite Christmas with traditional fare. Sons coming home from London and Perth and mum coming over. Is anybody travelling. What are you all doing and eating?

Re: Merry Christmas
I'm home for xmas, Start with, champagne, blini, sour cream, caviar and chopped onions with some gravlax and porters mustard on the side, a huge turkey with walnut, sage, onion and plum stuffing, roasties plus pureed carrots and rutabaga and of course mash, cranberry sauce and gravy, we will be accompanying that with some well chilled vino verdi and or Reisling.
After a short interval we'll carry on with the xmas pudd from Kendals (house of Fraser now) my own recipe brandy sauce, more wine, haven't decided what yet, my lad is tasked with that choice.
Then we come to the mince pies which I highlighted in a previous post, then some stilton and port, finish with Brandy and coffee, is that enough ? any additional ideas will be welcome

Re: Merry Christmas
Happy Holidays everyone!
We picked up a fine Jamón Serrano leg from Lidl for just 25 quid (including the jamonera) a couple of weeks ago. It takes pride of place on our dining table & is a great talking point here! We're chomping our way through it, but there'll still be plenty left for Xmas - after which the bone will be used to make a good old chickpea stew. We just had a lovely tapas: fresh asparagus wrapped in jamón serrano, drizzled with olive oil & grilled with cherry tomatoes. And of course we'll be having my favourite, dates in bacon, at some point. These Brits may have left Spain, but Spain has not left these Brits entirely

Don't worry about what people think, they don't do it very often

Dates in bacon are one of my favourites. I 1st had them 20 years ago in Tarifa. I also like pigs in blankets.

Re: Merry Christmas
First had dates in bacon in Palma (Mallorca) - and pimientos padrón - neither of which seem very common on the CDS. Maybe up Granada way? If you decide to have a go at making them yourselves (very easy) I do recommend buying de-stoned (sin hueso) dates if you can - it makes the job so much easier!
I've just bought a pack (sadly with stones) from Lidl.

Malaga food market sells lovely Pimientos Padron with sea salt on them. The last food stall as you walk to the market with the market on your right hand side.

Re: Merry Christmas
Dates wrapped in bacon known as "angels on horseback" were originally prepared by using oysters, the dates wrapped in bacon came later, still delicious though !!
Another little morsel you might like to try, take the stem out of normal field mushrooms (not too big) stuff them with a semi hard blue cheese, St Agur works well, wrap them in a rasher of bacon and grill in the oven, tasty !!
