We received our latest endesa bill which showed we had used double the amount of electricity compared to the same time last year!! We can't understand it as we've used the same appliances etc.
According to the meter 2kwh were used overnight when the only things running were fridge, freezer & router(including phone line)....
We went to the Endesa office but they said it couldn't possibly be the meter but had to be a problem inside (nothing to do with them!).
Any suggestions would be appreciated....

Re: Endesa
Have you checked the numbers on the actual meter, or just on the website? I recently got charged for 5x my actual consumption. The meter showed the correct figures, but a huge surge in consumption that lasted a month appeared on the website. The bill that came two months later corrected the mistake. Obviously there was no explanation, apology or compensation.
Re: Endesa
Interesting......
The reading is from the meter. I don't think we'll be able to access the account on the website as the bill is in the Landlord's name....... they pay & bring us the bill to reimburse them.
Maybe a return visit to Endesa....

Re: Endesa
Have you turned off your main consumer unit switch and check if the meter stops?
Re: Endesa
Do you mean the 'box' in the house? (sorry I'm a bit thick when it comes to this sort of stuff!).
I'll try it.......

Re: Endesa
The consumer unit contains all the micro circuit breaker and is nearly always within the house. There will be a single main switch, usually on the left, that will kill everything. The meter should be totally still.
In my case the meter revolved very slowly. Endesa initially said this was normal, meter creep, as you would expect. But eventually traced it to an earth fault in the meter and put it right.
However, 2 kWhs overnight is not exceptional!

Re: Endesa
A fridge and a freezer, especially if not the latest models could easily account for most of the 2kw.
Was the house occupied or not? How big was the bill? What was the total kWh consumption?

Re: Endesa
Water pump cycling on/off (something leaky? Typically 700w or so.
Any overnight hotwater heating?
Good advice above: turn off main switch, and check for zero meter movement.
Presumably still an old-type mechanical meter.

Re: Endesa
No, it's a new meter..... installed a few months ago.
Hot water boiler's on a timer.....
7/11/17 - 17/1/18 953 kwhs
18/11/16 - 18/1/17 663 kwhs
Even taking into account the extra 10 days this year, it's still a big jump. (I know it's not double...... but still a big difference..... I'm Gemini & exaggeration is a trait!).
We'll try turning off main switch tomorrow. Have also ordered an energy consumption gadget from amazon.

Re: Endesa
Firstly, your consumption is ridiculously high!! I use 2000 units PER YEAR.
Secondly, You can have access to the online bill as a third party, which the landlord can and should set up for u.
Thirdly, Are u sure that you are paying the bill for your house?! Does the presented bill tally with the actual meter?
If it's a flat, you could be paying the bill for next door and they paying yours, due to meter mixup, etc. Could be a mistake or deliberate.
There could even be some other area in the building attached to your meter, (that was the case in one of my flats, decade ago.).
It's not up to you to challenge Endesa - you challenge the landlord.

Re: Endesa
Nearly 1000kwh does seem high but it does depend on what appliances are in use. A water heater on a timer should be reasonable but fridges and freezers can use a lot. Washing machines and dishwashers are expensive and tumble driers more so. Electric cookers can add a bit but they are not used continuously. Pool pumps are a killer,
Not knowing what the OP actually uses makes it difficult to judge whether the consumption is higher than it should be. Jhonnie99’s comment that it is “ridiculously high” as not necessarily true, he obviously does not have a huge amount of devices to burn the units. I have a very electric house and in the Jan/Feb period 2500kwh is normal and if it’s very cold 3000 is possible.
Comparing different peoples energy bills is a waste of time as everyone has a different usage pattern.
