But of course it could be said that it is half full!

seems to me to work out at about a third full! ... but even that recent increase hardly seems enough to get us throughthe next 6 - 8 months without any more rain ...

10 years ago Vinuela was at 18% full. By law a reservoir ceases to supply water at 15%. So it was low!. 4 years later, after the great November storm, it was full and causing the authorities great concern. As a retired Panel engineer I appreciated their concern and visited it many times, as did many Spaniard to watch the tail race display.
Before this rain event it was at 22% and last week recorded at 29%. Todays figures aren't out yet but I would expect it to get to about 33%.
Interestingly, they cut the useage by about 50% over the winter months this year. I'm not sure where the balance was made up from but I didn't notice any reduction in pressure.

It has been announced today that the irrigation restrictions in force since December will remain in respect of the Viñuela/La Axarquia area, because of concerns about the low water reserves there.

Glad I've only got a few tomato plants on my terrace to worry about then.....had to move them undercover as they were drowning in all the rain.

Just came back from Spain today, most of people i spoke to were happy but Spaniards do not do long periods of wet very well.
Personally i think its great as Spain needs water more than i need sunshine in March.
I seen one bridge kinda messed up but not much more, i believe there was much damage on Atlantic coast.
Just wonder if these communities be helped as they will need support to get things going.
There seems to be considerable damage on the Cadiz/Huelva coastline...

"Spaniards do not do long periods of wet very well"

I don't either. Wrong kind of rain and we lose our TV signal. wrong kind of rain and we lose our power. I keep telling myself that it won't be long before the endless dry sunny days will be here again.

On the plus side our first swallow is back and been roosting under the patio roof for these last three days. Still haven't seen any actually flying . First cuckoo will only be a week away.

The latest story (from 18.13 yesterday evening) now says that there is to be a meeting next week when the 60% cut in irrigation water supplies in the Axarquia area will be revised - there must have been some serious lobbying going on on behalf of the fruit growers in the 24 hours between these news stories!

But is the right type of rain because the BBC keep forecasting heavy rain for Malaga and the days pass with a bit of a heavy shower. I think the worst has gone although with easter on the horizon it may well rain a bit.

I got one hectare under 30cm water. Going to take a full day just to clear out all trash that has floted around.

You need better drainage! The only problem we have is having to drop the pool level back to normal. The other 8000m2 is fine as it is on the side of a hill.

The Junta de Andalucia has relaxed the restrictions on water use for irrigation in La Axarquia from the 60% cut originally imposed to a 25% reduction in the normal allowance. Seems sensible, as Viñuela is still well under half full.
