Car servicing question - translation

Postby Bongtrees » Tue Sep 19, 2006 10:37 am

I have a car which has clocked up 80,000kms, someone told me to ensure that the garage changes the cam belt but I looked on the service book (spanish) but cant work out what this is in Spanish.

Friend says must be done so am in a panic because revision is tomorrow.

Babel Fish translation shows it as correa de la leva, but how accurate this is I don't know.
Since I gave up hope I feel much better!

cinturón dentado = toothed belt. Maybe this would help too.

Cambiar correa dentada.

I've just had it done and that's what it says on the service sheet.

Technical manuals call it 'Timing belt' the Technical Spanish term is 'Correa de distribucion'.
If it isn't changed at the recommended time then wear on the belt could mean that the valves hit the pistons - especially if you miss a gear change and over-rev the engine.
It really gets expensive then!
