Hotel near Hospital Parque San Antonio - Malaga

Postby brenda » Thu Sep 21, 2006 4:27 pm

Husband VERY poorly and admitted to Intensive Care Unit of Hospital Parque San Antonio today.

Does anyone know of a hotel locally where I could book in for a few days to be near - we live an hour away with no public transport + I don´t drive so staying close by seems best solution.

Hospital Parque San Antonio...last year a friend was there and his wife could stay in his room on a quite comfortable sofa... ok for a few days..but dont think you could do that if he is still in Intensive Care Unit.

Hotel Zenit Málaga calle Cuba, 1-3 Malaga
Hotel MS maestranza
Hotel del pintor.

You might get a cheaper one in the smaller hostals around Malaga Renfe station..all easy to travel to and from Parque San Antonio. Nº 11 bus I think.

Brenda - sorry to hear of your husbands illness.

I read a very interesting article in this months Streetwise Magazine about what to expect when in hospital. It was quite enlightening. One thing it said is that it is usual for a member (or members) of the patients family to be there 24/7. Even sleeping by their bedside. In fact it is unusual for the patient to be left alone in the hospital, so maybe you could stay at the hospital almost full time. Whether it is different in ICU I am not sure. Of course for many Ex-Pat families there may only be one family member in the region so the patient does spend time alone.

I hope all goes well for you.

Many thanks for all the above replies.

Once Ian gets out of ICU I can stay with him but not whilst in the unit.

Again thanks for all your responses - very much appreciated.

Yes - hang on in there Brenda - hope everything turns out well. From what I hear, the standard of medical care is at least as good as you would find in the UK, and there is less chance of mrsa etc, so the odds are better for recovery.

Hi

A very big THANK YOU to all the people who have sent good wishes for Ians recovery.

Nearly 3 weeks on he is still in hospital but, fingers crossed, he will be coming out on Monday - being let out on Oxygen, a cocktail of medication and not allowed to do anything but it will be wonderful to have him at home.

I cannot praise the care he has received at Hospital parque San Antonio high enough. Both on the Intensive Care Unit, and on the second floor since he was transferred there plus in all the Xray/Nuclear Medicine/Cardiology departments - first class.

Since he was transferred to a room of his own I have stayed with him 24/7 and done all his personal care. I have been encouraged to participate as much as possible and this has been a great comfort to both Ian and myself.

Once again, thanks to all for their concern.

Brenda

Great news Brenda, you and Ian must be very relieved.

The health services here are very family orientated, which is good for you as a family, and for the health service.

I hope Ian's recovery is speedy.

Am delighted to say that Ian was finally discharged this morning. Still poorly and with a long way to go - am pulling my hair out at the moment trying to get his Oxygen delivered! - but wonderful to have him home.

Thanks to everyone at Andalucia.com for their good wishes.
