Now that is good advice bob, I'll certainly be aware about that now. Thank you.bobdun wrote:Just one quick comment the Portsmouth ferry terminal at Bilbao is further along than the main port terminal.

Well yes,Devils Advocate wrote:in the town/suburb of Muskiz.
Anyone know the area?
I will need to allow at least 5 minutes to get to the port.
Head for the motorway direction Bilbao and take the very first exit.
There is a train and It’s the last on the last the line so no complications there.
The only problem is there is an oil refinery on the edge of the town.

Thanks Mark, really looking forward to seeing your home city. We'll be there from early on a Sunday until the Tuesday so will have virtually 2 whole days to explore. Would love to get the train/bus to centro Bilbao..........will these run on a Sunday? What frequency etc?
Noticed a few comments on the Hotel reviews mentioning a gas works, they probably mean the oil refinery you mention. Great to hear it's handy for the port too, it looks a great place though. Many thanks for your insider knowledge Mark, appreciated.

DA. Hope you have a good trip.
I would be interested in your experience in Bilbao after the event. We were due to spend May in Leon , picos de Europa and Bilbao. Family events overtook us and we drove back to Scotland again. Have done 18k km so far this year.
On the way back we stayed in a lovely place in the Basque country, the hotel . The restaurant was full. Two set evening menus. We chose the 27 euro, we thought it was 3 courses but you actually got all the starters! We will give the hospederia in Miranda del Ebro a try next time.

Thanks very much for that Olive.
I'll certainly keep you informed re. the Bilba visit, just been looking at the hotel now and working out routes to the port and also trying to find the public transport links to Bilbao central.
Can you remember the name of the hotel you mention in the Basque region? We have one more night to fill and open to suggestions, we will probably stay in Miranda again otherwise.
Hope you like the Hospederia when you visit, very quiet and such a great position for the town, easy walk of 2-3 minutes. Plus you must visit the raised gardens 200 metres away, fantastic.
Have a great summer mate!!

Oops. Hotel Larranaga. Nice family run place. Good for an overnight en route. No other bars or restaurants nearby. We had a pre dinner walk around the industrial units and wood yards that abound in the area. Somewhere in San Sebastion or elsewhere with nicer surroundings might be more appropriate.
