Ryanair and Granada - here's hoping!!
[size=85]Talks were talking place on Wednesday between Ryanair and the Diputación provincial government of Granada on new international flights from Granada.
In May last year, the low-cost airline cancelled four of its six routes out of Granada, only leaving in place its connections with Bologna and Milan. Routes to Madrid, Girona, London Stansted and Liverpool were closed down.
Ideal newspaper indicates that the meeting took place at Ryanair’s request and that, if agreement is reached, the intention is for any new routes to be in operation before the summer.
There has been no confirmation as yet of which destinations could be selected.

Re: Ryanair and Granada - here's hoping!!
That's very interesting, Dawn, fingers crossed for that to happen. My youngest daughter and her family have already booked to come out to our house in the Summer -they have to come in the school holidays and flights for 4 to Malaga were horrendous, so they are flying into Seville and driving to our house - about a 3 hour drive. We were thinking of doing the same but will hold back and see what happens re possibly flying to Granada. Thanks for the info

Now that is a shame Too good to be true I suppose!
Re: Ryanair and Granada - here's hoping!!
And now ...
This appeal says it was unlawful to charge €40 for someone who didn't bring their boarding pass.Budget airline Ryanair could ban passengers from flying who fail to print a boarding pass before arriving at the airport, if it loses a landmark Spanish court appeal.

Well as much as I would like to see Ryanair operating again from Granada, ( 20 minutes from my house..very handy ), I do hope that the authorities don't give into their unreasonable demands....
I know Ryanair is a successful airline, but they really do seem to be money grabbers...

Gordon...

Re: Ryanair and Granada - here's hoping!!
The Mayor of Granada has said that he is not backing the initiative of the Diputacíon to give money to Ryanair. He said that the European Union bans it.It would be unfair to help one airline and not another. So those of us who live near Granada airport must go on hoping....
Re: Ryanair and Granada - here's hoping!!
A couple of websites (the Olive Press & one for airport information) are saying that Aer Lingus have announced that they are planning to start flying into Granada airport. I can't find any other info on this development & wondered if anyone out there had heard anything?

Info from 1casa.com
Ryanair to Cancel Flights to Girona
The low cost airline, Ryanair has announced that it will cancel 18 of its services to Girona. This follows a disagreement with the newly elected Catalan regional government.

Is there anyone or any place that Ryanair does not have a disagreement with?
Soon they will be taking off and then landing at the same airport!

They are also stopping Granada to Bologna at the end of March so it doesn't look good for international flights via Granada....

I think its unlikely Aer Lingus will be flying to Granada for Summer 2011 as they announced their summer routes and schedules several months ago. They are due to release winter 2011 seats within the next couple of weeks, however I don't envisage them adding Granada for the winter flights as they will usually reduce the Malaga, Alicante and Barcelona flights during the winter months.tim&bina wrote:A couple of websites (the Olive Press & one for airport information) are saying that Aer Lingus have announced that they are planning to start flying into Granada airport. Maybe for Summer 2012, which they will announce around September/October.

Re: Ryanair and Granada - here's hoping!!
Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings but Ryanair are stopping their last link with Granada from the end of May.
The Milan - Granada flight is ending so there will be no more Ryanair at that Airport after Sunday 29th May.
I have flights booked from Granada to Milan in early June so will await the email, it always takes ages for them to admit anything even though the web site has the detail there.

There is an Italian airline,Blue Panorama, which is starting flights between Rome and Granada in April..
So maybe, bit by bit, other airlines will start using Granada..

I was told by an expat that Easjet and British Airways would soon be flying into Granada and that Ryanair would be following on....... I take it that none of you guys have heard anything on this and that this is just another unfounded rumour....?
Re: Ryanair and Granada - here's hoping!!
Oh dear, I got all excited then when I saw there was a new reply to this thread.
My friends niece works in Granada airport and so we usually get to know if there is any news, but have heard nothing so far
I'm hoping to fly into Granada in September but only from Barcelona.

At the moment the BA web site will sell you a ticket to Granada, but via Madrid. Onward connection to Granada is with Iberia.
I've got an inferiority complex, but it's not a very good one!
