Sierra Nevada Ski by Car
Sierra Nevada Ski by Car
Is it easy to drive to and into the Sierra Nevada ski resort. I'm thinking about any adverse weather conditions, I'd like to be able to drive to a hotel.

Hi Swallow,
The road up to Pradollano is usually ok, if not then the snow signs will be light on the way up.
I've been up there with Winter tyres (two wheel drive), didn't need to put chains on that day although it was icy.
Get your self some snow chains or snow covers before going up.

Thanks Enrique, a small hire car from the airport is not going to be suitable then by the sound of it.
How do taxi/coach transfers from the airport get around the problem?

A small car will be fine. Normally you never come across snow untill the last 5km's and then its only in the gutter. I have heard of traffic cops looking for snow chains / socks but have never seen it happen. When you arrive in Pradallano most cars go into the large underground car park. Where are you going to stay ? What hotel ?Swallow wrote:Thanks Enrique, a small hire car from the airport is not going to be suitable then by the sound of it.

Hi Swallow,
Following on from Scotty's post.........if you are just flying in to ski then a transfer would be best, no hassle if the weather is adverse , its someone else's problem to get you there.
Once in the "village" its easy to get to all locations either walking or on the lifts.

I have been several times and only once were the police checking for chains. They did turn people back if not in a 4wd or no chains.

I haven't booked yet and I am wanting to drive from Malaga airport in a hire car. Don't fancy taking the chance of being stopped for not having chains after coming all that way. Can the car hire people supply them?
I'll be staying at a hotel btw.

Just checked I can pick a car up with snow chains at the airport. Never used chains can I actually drive on normal roads with them fitted or do I put them on later
Re: Sierra Nevada Ski by Car
No , you put them on when you get to the snow. It's illegal to use them when not on snow . Cuts up road surface & ruins the tyres.Swallow wrote:Just checked I can pick a car up with snow chains at the airport. Hi Swallow,
The beginners slope is up on the first run up(To Borreguiles) from the village so any hotel in the village will be ok.
If you're flexible then leave the weekends to the locals.
