How much cash needed?

Postby karandjon » Sat Jun 30, 2012 7:41 pm

My husband is travelling Sevilla - Calais - then through the dartford tunnel, nex week, and informs me he has no idea of a pin number for his card!

Would anyone happen to know how much money he will need roughly, for tolls/fuel?

Thanks.

Hi karandjon,
Look on www.viamichelin.co.uk

punch in hubbies route and it will tell you the tolls.

Should have sent him to Santander / Portsmouth , least he would have had a day off from driving

Hi

Just checked my tolltickets account which I have for the French leg and in June it racked up 68.20 euros. I'll check my bank for the spanish toll charges.
You can spend, minutes, hours, days, weeks or even months over-analyzing a situation; trying to put the pieces together, justifying what could've, would've happened - or you can just leave the pieces on the floor and move the f**k on.

Unless he's using a vehicle that does 90+mpg , I'd check the calculations.
2000kms for 80€'s , just for fuel , is not possible.
In my vehicle at 40 mpg , I'll use 142litres of diesel, at least.

How does the fuel consumption of a car affect the tolls that are charged for using toll roads?
The less than 80€ referred to the toll costs.
Cheers

The ViaMichelin site referred to above will also, with a few inputs, work out the fuel cost for you too.

If he doesn't know his PIN, he'll also have to take cash for fuel ..... hence the helpful post on litres burned to get there.

When you open Enrique's link there's is nothing there until you put in details. Mine always comes up with both tolls/fuel.

In addition if he is off the autovias at night & requires fuel they all shut at 10 to 10,30pm & I've never found one that takes cash, only cards. Might have to wait for a helpful Frenchman that will fill it on his card & take cash ! I had to once when none of my cards worked ! :D

Good point Gus ...... and it reminds me that when passing through 'Froggy Land' on a Sunday, a lot of the urban stations are shut and only take cards on their automated pumps.

well, thanks for all the replieds and thought i'd report back on how he did. he set off with 400euros in the wallet and returned with 120euros.

so the 280 euros covered, all tolls, and fuel. (and 14euros on food and drink).

He set off from Sevilla at 9.30am and arrived in Norfolk the following afternoon at 1.30pm, blurry eyed and hungry with a very numb bum!!

I had to get a new pin number for a card recently. Took me all of two minutes on the phone.

took longer here. The Bank have had to re-order him a new card as it wasn't being read by machines anyway.

Would be interested on how you got a new pin number by phone anyroads. Husband forgot his but we had to ask for a re-advice of pin and wait on it coming by post. Or is asking for a 'new pin' different to a re-advice?

I thought a new pin could only come by post as it is automated. A bank worker does not know anyones pin number.

Katy/Alexander you are right. You can only get re-advice or new pin numbers via the post.
