Walking areas reachable by train?

Postby Chica56 » Tue Oct 07, 2014 3:19 pm

A friend of mine is a keen walker and wants to spend a few days walking but she will not have a car. Can anyone suggest anywhere that is beautiful to walk but also has a railway station?

Any info helpful, thank you in hope!

I think the above are lovely, if you want to walk around beautiful cities. There is a station in Antequera and then probably buses to surrounding countryside villages down to the Axarquia. Also Alora has a station and will have links to the El Chorro National Park.
I think a bus will need to be added to your friends itinerary but lots of mountain walks as a pay off.
Remember - Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you!

El Chorro 'Arab Steps' starts right by the station I hour from Malaga.
In fact there are many walks in the El Chorro area most involve some steep uphill sections. However you will be rewarded by the magnificent views.

I would definitely recommend the El Chorro option - plenty of walking to be had and some walks downloadable.

You can go further onto Rhonda on this train as well.

Yes, stunning countryside. Lots more around there too.
