Caminito del Rey
Re: Caminito del Rey
Just managed to book 2 places for a date in early May. As suggested by Vinuela Vinny it would be great if someone could post up a full review of the logistics, length of the walk, time needed etc once they have actually done it. Unless we can arrange to leave a car at the other end it might be unrealistic for us to actually do it in May and we are a bit confused about the logistics at the moment, but hopefully things will become clearer once people experience it. If we can fathom out the details we're up for it and I await further information from the early intrepid walkers.

I think Jane has already checked out that site, which I gave the link for in the first post, since she's already booked her tickets.
Don't worry about what people think, they don't do it very often

Yes, agreed, that is the website I used to book the tickets. It does provide plenty of information but a lack of detail means it's not crystal clear as has been mentioned in the thread. Still hoping a real person will share their knowledge once the pathway has opened.
Re: Caminito del Rey
We are booked in four weeks time. It was the only time that month!
I'll post my thoughts on the experience after.
can't see how we are going to get on with the MIL mobility scooter but in the worst case she can stay in the car.

Re: Caminito del Rey
Have booked for May 19th - was looking at the 13th earlier today, but by the time I'd got the ID details from the rest of my party this evening, the 19th was the earliest available. If anyone is thinking of booking, you better get a move on!
We have a two-car strategy in play. Unfortunately, one of them is a 2 seater, so it will require some clever logistical planning!
Will post a full report on the 20th (if we make it); meanwhile, look forward to hearing from others who get there before us. Good luck everyone

Re: Caminito del Rey
According to this article from today's Diario Sur about the reaction of visitors on opening day, it looks as though the public transport problems might have been solved as it says a circular bus route from Ardales to Álora has started operating from today.Miro wrote:So, it's finally opening and you can book free tickets online now at http://www.caminitodelrey.info/
But....so far there is no provision of transport to get you back to your start point, which presents something of a logistical problem. (They don't even seem to have made any provision for car parking either, which seems a bit of an oversight since they're expecting 600 people a day). The only people I know who might be happy to sit in a vehicle for 4 or 5 hours waiting while the rest of our party do the walk, are non-drivers, so that's a dead-end! Could arrange one-way transport to the Ardales start point, and hope there's a train back from El Chorro at the right time. Of fork out for a private minibus to do the round trip, which would mean booking it for the whole day basically. Just as well the path itself is free for the first six months.

More information about the bus service. It will run half hourly from 12.30 to 20.30 between April and October and from 12.30 to 18.30 from November to March, a ticket costs €1.55 unless you have a Malaga Transport card.

Re: Caminito del Rey
The website has had a glitch, hacked claimed the authorities. Yesterday there were 50 bookings at 10am but 300 turned up after booking online
Seems a lot of footfall even if only 50 a half hour for such a fragile structure.

That's worrying! My grandson is walking it next week, hope it doesn't happen again.

Re: Caminito del Rey
We were lucky to get reservations online for last Tuesday and have posted lots of practical information about the Caminito del Rey including how to get there, where exactly you report to and the shuttle bus which has now been organised to take you back to the start. Lots of photos and we will add a detailed description of the walk next week.

Anybody else who does have reservations, please post any useful information here.
On the 31 March 2015 the reservations for June were released and all 27.500 booked in a few hours. This was mainly because it was pushed heavily on Canal Sur TV and other local stations. Within a few days reservations for July and September will be released without prior warning. If anybody does notice please post here and tweet to @andalucia_com
Unfortunately this method does make it difficult for those foreign tourists who have future holiday dates booked to obtain tickets. Lets hope it settles down.

Re: Caminito del Rey
There was an announcement by the head of the Dipitacion de Malaga on Thursday that on Friday 10th April tickets for July, August and September were to be released. Unfortunately this did not happen as the reservation website had technical problems and gave "HTTP Error 505 - HTTP version not supported" A "For technical problems on the site, the service is temporarily unavailable. Sorry for the inconvenience." notice was posted at mid-day. Dario Sur Malaga ran with the story today that two errors had been found, one in the software and one in the server and that the contract was rescinded with company responsible. At 19.30hrs a different notice was posted saying that the website is being be upgraded an to try again in a few minutes.

Thanks wildside - that's very helpful.....
We have made a reservation for 24 June, from Ardales, and will park as you did at the bar, and return by the bus......
Looking forward to it
Regards to all

Re: Caminito del Rey
We didn't walk it yesterday. Found it was closed on arrival - too windy. All a bit chaotic both in terms of advice and rebooking. For people with mobile Internet or later in the day bookings you can find out(after a bit of searching )on the official website whether it is closed.
A great diasappointment having got organised and travelled a fair distance.
One plus was seeing a herd of eight deer very closeup and plenty of eagles during the day.

Appreciate that it was disappointing, but better safe than sorry..... It's probably good news that they are being careful.....
Did they offer you a re-booking while you were there? Or did you have to go back online?
Vinnie

Where, exactly? I find the website truly awful, dreadful lack of mobile functionality. Must have been designed for the original opening of the Caminito a hundred odd years agoolive wrote: you can find out(after a bit of searching )on the official website whether it is closed.
