Recently we organised an interesting trip for a group of expats and friends to the recently excavated ruins of a Large Roman Villa in Salar, which is just outside the city of Loja.
The excavated area is only a very small part of what appears to be a very big and important Roman Villa circa 2nd to 4th Century AD.
It has some really fantastic mosaics and it is possible to see the parts used as baths and rooms etc.
The site is covered by a very secure and well constructed domed roof and inside you enter onto a glass walkway which enables you to look down at the mosaics etc.
Although I am really in 'my element' when visiting anything historical I wasn't too sure if my party of expats would be interested, but they really were and it was great to see them so quiet and attentive !
After the visit we went on to a Bar/Restaurant in Salar village and we had a very enjoyable menu-del-dia.
We try to organise regular trips for our members and friends of The Royal British Legion ,Loja and if you would like to view some of the photographs of this visit and others, please look at our website..Royal British Legion,Loja, Spain.
In some of the photos you may spot me..dressed as a Roman Nobleman delivering a speech..
Anyway, the Villa site isn't open to the general public yet, but we hope to organise another trip in September, so if anyone would like to come along with us please make contact and we will send the details when finalised, and that goes for any other events that we will be organising..come along you will be made most welcome !
Also we are always looking for other places to visit in Andalucia, so we would really welcome any information/ideas of interesting places to visit, preferably with a nearby Restaurant for us to dine out ...
We normally have groups of between 15 to 25 people, all suggestions welcome...be nice !!!
Regards,
Gordonious...

If visiting Loja look out for this especially fans of the Marx Brothers who might recognise the view.

Re: A Trip Back in Time
Thanks Folks for your input so far, and I really would appreciate more ideas ..
The Loja area is quite different to many other parts of Granada Province and really worth a 'day trip' for anyone who is a little more adventurous and certainly worthy of an overnight stay.
So..if I can help anyone with advice about places to visit, please feel free to ask.
Katy...I have put your name down for my next Roman Villa trip ..
Irene, I will check out your recommendation..Ta very much....
Regards,
Gordon
