Sierra Nevada

Postby elizabennett » Fri Nov 04, 2016 4:15 pm

We are thinking of spending a couple of nights over Christmas and New Year at the Sierra Nevada. We don't plan on skiing, but we would like to soak up the atmosphere and the apres ski! Any suggestions for which villages are best? We are looking for someplace with a few good restaurants.

Hi elizabennet,

Have a look at Pradollano.......up until last season we have been spending 3-4 days over Christmas there either in a house or apartment. This year went mid-January (limited snow), next year going later in March.

The weather can be a bit unpredictable will depend on how the Winter turns out, if its a dry one the village could be without snow........... :(

The days around Christmas are relatively quiet, ok for skiing as the lift queues are small, some restaurants are even closed. It picks up closer to New Year.

You may need snow chains when you drive up although they try and keep the road open as far as the large car park at the bottom of the village. There are signs on the way up indicating if chains are needed and where.

Pradollano base is at 2100mtr

Have a look at the webcams..........currently some feeds not available, have a search with Google...........

UNIX is basically a simple operating system, but you have to be a genius to understand the simplicity.

The hotels in Pradollano are very expensive. We were thinking of staying in one of the other villages in the sierra, such as Guejar Sierra or Monachil. Is anyone on the forum familar with any of these villages? We would like somewhere with good authentic Spanish bars and restaurants.
