It was a good point about Easter, its Sunday 21st April. I think this means that we will try to be back home by Good Friday. I understand and agree with the concerns about the long journeys to and from a permanent base but as tourists we might enjoy watching Spain go by from a train, coach or bus a bit more than a regular commuter might. Thank you to Gasman for all the public transport information.

Not only do the Easter processions start the Sunday before, but cities like Seville start to close off roads and put out the seating areas some time before that. We were in Seville one year 10 days before Easter Sunday but already they were putting up grandstand-type seating, which did close off areas and make it very hectic with lorries delivering seats etc.

I think what people are saying about travelling to cities from a central point is that you may well spend much of the day travelling and not have much time to see the sights, as places like Seville and Granada really need a couple of days to do it justice. Pamela's route was a very good one.

Have you thought about using Madrid as you center point? Easy to get to from the U.K. From there it should be possible to get to Andalucía and Barcelona by plane and high speed train.

As already posted, Day trips are unadvisable due to the long distance between the main cities but in theory, it would be possible if you stay in the middle of the country and allow more than a day for each excursion and least 3 days for Barcelona.

Thank you everyone for all your suggestions. Our travel plans are now confirmed, slightly less ambitious and avoiding Easter as advised here. The Canadian couple will arrive in Barcelona a few days before the four from the UK. We will all be staying in a large Airbnb property in Barcelona City centre. After four days we are getting the Train from Barcelona to Seville, looking forward to sitting down and watching Spain go by for 5 1/2 hours. We have booked, for 10 days, an Airbnb property just outside Seville but near the Metro. We will have a nice garden and a pool. We plan to visit Cordoba and Malaga once or twice each by train. We will go to Seville two or three times, explore the local area and spend a couple of days together just relaxing. We fly back to the UK from Malaga. The Canadian couple are staying a bit longer and will try to make it to Granada for a couple of days on the way back to Barcelona airport. Our flights are booked, the accommodation is booked. We would appreciate any further advice. Happy New Year to all of you, will post again when we return in May. Thanks again.

Happy new year to you and your Canadian friends - It sounds like the adventure is coming together nicely now. Have a great time ... cannot think of any further advice at present - but we are always keen to help if you think of anything else you want to know.
