Malaga Airport Train Ticket Machine
Malaga Airport Train Ticket Machine
I have a friend coming in August who will be taking the train from Malaga Airport to the Benalmadena area. Now I've only used the ticket machine twice, got totally confused and had to ask a fellow traveller for help both times.
Can anyone give me a simple guide through it?

Touch the screen, touch the Union Jack symbol, follow the dialogue.

Yes, it is sinmple. If you touch the union jack symbol, you will get all the instructions in English instead od Spanish. I have often taken the train to Malage from Torreblanco Station near Fuengirola. I normaly buy a return ticket as it is cheaper. These Ticket Machines do actually work

Hi Gruff, basically the machine asks you where you want to go, all stations listed, select one. What sort of ticket you want and if you are going to pay cash or use the RENFE pre-pay card that commuters use, if you pay cash the choice is coins or notes (Two different slots).. ( You can also use a credit card- different slot again). The ticket appears in the glass fronted trough at the bottom of the machine and then any change due.

Just one thing to add, depending on where in Benalmadena is the destination. El Pinillo is in a closer 'zone' than Arroyo de la Miel station and therefore cheaper (€1.80 single). Yes, I am that tight, but I also live just after the Torremolinos/Benalmadena border so it's a shorter walk. The downside is that directing strangers where to go from El Pinillo can be more complicated or more easily confused than Arroyo - which is smack bang on the main street.
The upside is that meeting anyone there in a car is a doddle compared to Arroyo, with a decent parking area and the nearby streets available, whereas Arroyo station is no good for parking, but the taxi rank is right outside.

The cost of a return is not cheaper anymore. They stopped the return fare discount. Just press english for instructions. The new machine in Malaga centro
asks you CONFIRM once you have put in your instructions. Lots of people don’t notice this added ask. I dont think the airport machines have been updated yet.

Also you can get a Tarqueta Dorada (seniors discount ticket that lasts a year) if you are over 60). I have used it twice this year going from Seville to Malaga and once from Malaga to the airport and I don't even live in Spain.

Hi, maureenscot, what are the benefits of tarjeta dorada and where does one obtain it ?
Re: Malaga Airport Train Ticket Machine
I have the pre paid bus and train card. You get a third discount of your route of choice. You pay full price for other journeys but it is quite handy if you use one route alot like we do.

The cabin in the station near Malaga port sells the card.I think its 2 euro for a blank cars then pre pay as much as you want. You tell them your preferred discount route.

The one I have got is for all routes. We got about a third off on the high speed trains off-peak. I bought them in the station at Seville.
Re: Malaga Airport Train Ticket Machine
That may be because your over 60 I guess. Not being ageist by the way. The one I have is available to anyone but you have to select your favourite route.
