Suggest you also look into areas west of Gibraltar, especially if you don't want to be surrounded by Northern Europeans.
Cadiz Province.

The other suggestion, which others have made, is make sure your hired place has efficient & suitable heating.

We stay for just under 90 days in Almunecar. It's a working town.with plenty of activities and a good mix of nationalities but not so many British. There are several agencies that do winter rentals we use rentinamunecar have done for 5 years and always stay in the same apartment 3miles out of town but suits us. Another agency is matchpoint which I know people have used. You really need to visit to make sure it's not in the shade this makes such a difference as we know when we booked a beautiful air bnb old house in town for 55 nights and left after 15 we nearly went home if it wasn't for finding this rental! it was so cold even when the sun was really warm outside. It was an expensive mistake.

Make sure the place you rent has heating available.
