We are staying in Salobrena in May 2006 and wondering if anyone knows of any local bullfights in the area during this period. Also enquiring the need to pre book or can you just turn up on the day?
Thanks
Bull fights
recommend you start right here at andalucia.com -
click on 'society & culture'
(bullfighting is a part of spanish culture - not a 'sport')
then click on 'bullfighting' -
the schedule for the 2006 season is not yet out, but 'traditionally' begins
at the end of 'semana santa' (holy week) easter in seville...
tickets are not cheap -
the price depends on where you sit and who's on the 'card' -
i recommend sitting a couple of rows up, behind the 'capes' and
among the best are - enrique ponce, el juli & jesulin de ubrique -
there are at least a dozen bullrings in malaga province
of various sizes & status...

No muerdes la mano que te da de comer.
Technically, Ronda is the oldest, then Madrid, then El Puerto. But El Puerto's bullring is the finest in Spain according to the bullfighters themselves. But I did read in an English guidebook the other day that the bullring in the "port of Cadiz" was the best to go to. I wonder how many people have searched Cadiz for a bullring and been very disappointed because of bad translations.
I have a quick view at the bullring in El Puerto but I don't know what to say as I have nothing to compare to. It's grande and very interesting.
None of my friends want to go to see any bull fights with me .
I shall not wish to witness the gory part but I just want to feel and soak into the atmosphere.

In 1809 a certain Lord Byron visited Cadiz on his way to the Med. On Sunday 30th July of that year he took a boat to cross over from the old city of Cadiz to witness the bull fight at El Puerto.lis48 wrote:Technically, Ronda is the oldest, then Madrid, then El Puerto. Of course in those days, the bullring would have been quite modest unlike the present one which is large and grand. The description of his visit is in Childe Harold Stanza 65 to Stanza 93 of Canto I . You can find his words on the internet. Bit of culture.

There is a new Plaza de Toros in Motril. It has just been completed at a cost of nearly 3m Euros and seats 6000. It will eventually seat 8000.frank wrote:Your nearest decent "local" corrida would be Granada or Málaga, I guess. Do a search for those for May, you should find it.
The inaugural corrida is on 28th Feb and a further one on Mar 5th.
No doubt there will be more during the year.
