Can anyone tell me please if the shops will be open in Malaga on Wednesday (holiday) as we are planning a trip to see the lights :P ?

Haven't a clue but the lights are very nice. The tree outside Cafe central is spectacular and the nativity scene at the bottom of Larios is lovely.

The new terminal is one stop back from from city centre. quite along walk, i would recommend going 1stop back on the train, you come out of station into new terminal. coming in from airport it is 1 stop from the end of the line

From the bus station head for the correos buildind (main post office) opposite el corte inglais. The train station is behind that, head down the stairs and get on a train for 1 stop. That is the new terminal with all the new facilities.

As Silver said, the main train station (with its new shopping mall) is next to the bus station. It is signposted from there.

Why walk all the way to Correos/El Corte Ingles and then take the C1 line all the way back? Crazy!

even I,m getting confused now...
the new train station (reformed station) that used to be called malaga renfe is now called Vialia, (María Zambrano) .. and the new shopping center is called the same..main entrance in Calle Heroe de sostea...

the fuengirola/malaga train goes on from the main (Vialia) train station..to the center of Malaga (well almost center..by the main post office and opposite corte ingles).. a five minute walk from main station.

Now if you come out of the front entrance of the bus station..aim right and follow your nose (on your left you will see the Larios shopping center).. you will arrive opposite corte ingles..

if you do a right turn (walking) about 50m away is main post office .

..now if you turn right down the steps by the river (the river bed is dry..no water...and is on your left) here the road forks..take the right fork (calle Cuarteles)and you will come out at the new train station and shopping center.
(if you continue straight over the bridge down the road with all the trees you will come out to the old center area of Malaga...park..cathederal..)

...turn right and walk towards the Larios shopping center (which you can see from here) and on your left is the bus station...all this is about a 15min walk round the blocks.

Calle Heroe de sostea is a continuation of the calle cuarteles....the back of the train station is almost the back of the bus station....

  If you get lost..ask a policeman..

Masterrob, The new station complete with the new shopping centre is not the last stop on the line, it is 1 stop from the end of the line.

Costakid. Depends which line you are talking about! The C2 Álora line ends at the Main Station as, of course, do all the trains from places as far afield as Cordoba, Sevilla, Madrid etc.

In any case, the original question was
how far from the bus station is the renfre terminal?
. The answer is that the renfe main station [and its new shopping centre] is almost round the corner from the bus station about 5 mins walk. No need to go anywhere near El Corte Ingles or Correos etc..

Enjoyed our trip to Malaga yesterday and the beautiful lights. The new Renfe terminal with shopping mall is right next to the bus station and you can see it quite clearly although you have to actually walk out of the bus station and turn right to access it. It's pretty impressive and was absolutely packed as everywhere else was shut but noticed that most other shops will be open on Sunday. :D

Hi. Glad you found it and, more importantly, enjoyed it. The shopping centre is a great asset to that area. That said, I think Malaga is a very under rated city. We love the place.
