2nd hand book sales/markets
2nd hand book sales/markets
hi, we used to go to the monthly car boot in Almuñecar to stock up on our english books, but having moved 4 hours away towards Huelva we wondered if anyone knows of one closer, we can go to? many thanks, Karen ps i was even wondering if anyone knows of one in the Algarve which may be closer, as that is less than 2 hours away.
Hi where abouts are you ? We are on the boarder Seville/Huelva near Hinojos and I know a couple of other people who are in the same position near here, if you are not too far maybe we could meet up and swop books???
PM me if you are interested.
Occasionally you get a few English books at the Sunday market/junk sale in Seville, but not enough to warrent a special journey.
There was, may be still is a market at Teveria (I think its called) just across the boarder in Portugal on a Saturday or Sunday, maybe someone has better info on this, also in Teveria there is a German/Dutch ?guy who has 2nd English books for sale in his shop, so I am told, but we have yet to find it, I believe its in the old town part.
In the British shop in Ayemonte they have a small selection of books at the back of the shop that you can exchange or swap your books for a price.
If you take the ferry across to Portugal the first cafe as you get of the ferry sometimes have English books outside to swap, thought I did not notice any on my last visit, and finally in Huelva there is an English Book shop, but don't ask me where to find it.
Yes I like to read - at lot

Second Hand Book Shops
Hi, yes, I agree with Pilgrim. There's a second-hand book shop in Tavira and it is well worth a trip. PM me if you need directions.
We've seen hundreds of cars at the morning market (think it was a Saturday) just over the border but we were too late in the day to try to park up so just drove past so don't know if there are any brits there.
Maybe Pilgrim and I should start out own bookshop here in Seville - we've got a van!!!

A few years ago, we were thinking of moving to France.and contacted a lady who had started a forum up very similar to this one, only a lot smaller.
One of her sidelines/hobbies was a book swap/sale, she had several venues, usually in local cafes within about 20 miles radius of her home.
She advertised on the forum and in the cafes.
This was a great way of socialising, and the cafe owners were pleased with the extra income from the drinks/food.
Perhaps this could be started by some enterprising person.

There was a second hand bookshop in Seville a few years ago, run by an American woman, but don't ask me where it was cos I found everything by accident Must've been somewhere in the barrio Santa Cruz though cos that's were we were staying. She may have moved on of course but if still there she had thousands of books in several languages, including English of course, I bought a copy of The Hobbit from her.

Yes Annie, and usually within about 5-7 days if you're just ordering 1 book but be careful if you order a lot and opt for a single delivery. They sometimes hold the order for ages waiting for 1 book to come in. Try play.com as well, they're free delivery to mainland europe. The price is sometimes a bit higher than amazon but if you're only ordering 1 can work out cheaper when you don't have to pay delivery. Delivery time the same, about 5-7 days.

Just like to let anyone in the Huelva/Ayamonte area that we run a book and jigsaw swap from our home at Sanlúcar de Guadiana. It is completely free, just swap one for one. We have a large selection - 5 large bookcases - and growing all the time. Just ask for El Correo Viejo (or Juana la Inglesa!) We have a notice on the boat pontoon gangway with directions, but it is only a step from the bar Embarcadero and there is a notice on our front door. Look forward to seeing you.

yes, have ordered from Amazon. we actually get a lot of our books from ebay which are good value. you just have to make sure you use people who do reasonable postage price to spain and not the ones who up the price hugely. at the end of the day it is normally only another 50p per paperback extra to post to spain, and if you order from same person postage is conbined. nothing beats browsing a good bookshop tho, ... xxxx
