Car repair.

Postby Marina » Thu Nov 15, 2007 7:37 am

 Can anyone recommend a good body repair workshop (for the car, not me) near to Algarrobo, Torrox or Torre del Mar. I really need somewhere that is open on Saturdays.
Thanks.

Turned left accross a horendous junction near the motorway at Pedregalejo and didn't see a car approaching rather quickly in my blind spot.

I still don't know why I didn't see him. I'm very aware that my Zafira has horrendous blind spots at the front and I tend to be very careful about them.
I would like to be able to say that he shot into the junction far too fast for that stretch of road and if he had been a little slower, might have noticed a bloody great green car heading for him, and braked. However he had right of way so I have to hold my hands up to being responsible.

I'm kicking myself because it's just taken three and a bit days to earn what I'll now have to pay out on the policy excess, not to mention the loss of my no claims bonus.

Now anyone a good body repair workshop....

Accidents can happen....don't tell me....I know all about it
Main point is that you (and the other driver) are okay.....count your blessings....sorry I can't help with the repair shop.
Good luck!

As you are going through the insurance route, don't they have a list of preferred repairers? Do you have use of a courtesy car?

Frank, they don't seem to have anyone local. They can suggest places in Malaga or Fuengirola! I would rather find one near to me as I have to get it booked in then take it back etc and I just don't have time to waste at the moment.

Having previously had my car off the road for three weeks after a van hit me from behind, I decided to pay extra for a courtesy car. I have just discovered though that I can only have it for a week! In this case, that will hopefuly be enough time but there had been more serious damage a week wouldn't be enough!

Cant help with a repair place Marina but after a similar sounding crunch 2 years back, my astra was in for about 3 months - we didnt have a courtesy car on insurance but we did hire one for a week. Apparently it needed a jig to straighten the twist - cue for an old 60s song - and I was stuck without car (but with moto) for much longer than I would have expected. I am now told that I made a mistake by leaving for the grua to take it to a main Opel dealer and I would have got a better deal at a little village bodyshop.

Good luck in your search.

Ah!!! thanks. That's what I thought. The guy that runs our local Opal dealership is lovely, very patient with my Spanish but exceedingly slow with everything. He takes a minimum of 25 mins to type out a bill!
I need to find somewhere local and efficient. I guess I am the only one this side of Malage to have a prang!
Have just sat and bawled all through "the Mummy Diaries" ( if you haven't been watching, it's the thoughts of ladies dying and how they prepare their kids) and put life back into perspective, so am off to bed to count my blessings!

That's something I always insist on, but it seems to be the norm here in UK anyway. After about 40 years of no claims, my wife clouted a wall a few months back, and the car had to be repaired. I swapped to Saga (I know, don't laugh!!!) a few years ago, and I have to say I couldn't fault the whole process. They came and delivered courtesy car, took the other away, kept me informed throughout the repair, and brought the car back, and took away the courtesy car. The repair is covered for 5 years I think, just in case something appears later on. As they say, you never know how good your insurance is until you make a claim.

Would a little village garage have the kit to straighten a chassis, that sounds ecpensive kit! :D

Apologies, the quote doesn't seem to be working! :(

Apparently yes Frank. Admittedly our "village" is a pretty large village but I was advised that these relatively small chapas are specialised in bodywork so they do have the jig. The main dealer is mostly working on mechanicals and their bodyshop is a small part of the whole business.

There is a good one in Almayate. It has a good reputation. If you find the street where the council office is, the body shop is the second or so on the right. You will see all the cars parked on the outside.

If you are interested, we can give more specific info, rather than the above Spanish sort of info.

Thanks. Any more info would be good. I took it to the local main dealer for a quote but I doubt it will be cheap. All suggestions very welcome.
