DVD repair

Postby Marina » Sat Dec 08, 2007 8:03 am

I've got a DVD recorder that has hardly been used but isn't working. Does anyone know where I might get it repaired? I'm in the Torrox/Torre del Mar area.

Assuming it's not still under warranty, and it's not finger trouble, I'd throw it away! :( You can buy new ones from about £50. Don't know what they would charge you, but here in UK, most have a standing charge of about £30 before they do anything, it's not really a viable repair.

An electronics repair shop in Fuengirola charged me 108 euros to fix a Dvd player last year, I could have bought one from Gib for 60 euros, whatever you do though, don't buy from the second electronics shop on the right on Main st (Gib) his gear is dodgy, I bought a digital camera from him last year only to discover fifteen mins later that it was duff, after a physical confrontation and a near death experience for him, he was persuaded to refund my money, remember 2nd electronics shop on the right on Main st, Maliks if Im not mistaken!
Ah! the full english!!

Marina said it's a DVD Recorder - they can cost over £200.

Rogelio's in Nerja sell some high end stuff and might know where you could get it looked at.

El Cid's right, it wasn't cheap and would probably worth getting fixed if possible.

Where in Nerja is Rogelio's?

Although it is still possible to pay over £200 for a dvd recorder there are now many on the market for £50 to £60. So if its a minor problem its worth repairing.

This may not be the fault, but worth trying.

My DVD recorder stopped recording after 10months, so took it back to shop, got money back, went to Alcampo, bought another, got it home, and that one had same problem!!After hours of faffing about, what had happened is we´d had a power cut and the recording channel for the tv had changed, so dvd recording nothing. Once changed the tv setting back to how we had them, it worked perfectly, so took my new dvd recorder back, got money back, went to shop that still had my old one, re bought it (got new receipt for another years guarantee)took it home, and hey presto...it worked!!!So worth checking tv settings not changed.

Another friend thought theirs was broken, but after power cut, was recording to AV3 not AV2, so was recording a blank screen as dvd set to AV2.

Just a thought, worth trying before taking to shop.

You got your money back.... in Spain... after 10 months?

In my experience everything you buy here has a 14 day guarantee, after which, the shop just refers you to the manufacturer who just gives you the runaround.

If anyone knows of anywhere that I can buy a new dvd RECORDER for 50 or 60 quid please let me know :D :D

I wouldn't trust anyone in Andalucia to repair a complex piece of electronic equipment such as this because the servicio technicos are absoutely useless!!

Saddling up a donkey...yes , mending a dvd recorder...forget it!.......eeeeeeoooooorrrr!!:D :D :D :D
Buy a new one. It will be cheaper in the long run.

Just telling it the way it is

I most certainly did!!! Plus supermercado €259 - i went back in with the receipt and the dvd recorder in original box and you tell them its faulty and they give money straight back. This is general practice with Plus and has never been a problem for either myself or friends!

Like you say. just tell it like it is

Don't think it's the TV settings. It just doesn't seem to have any power at all.

Thanks for that link Ken.

They are a darn sight dearer than that here at the moment.

The 'technos' are still crap though!

Yes, I know. I also know they can run into hundreds, but as I said you can buy them from around £50. One here for £58, depends on whether you want all the gizmos.

Several at Amazon around £50

You're quite at liberty to pay a couple of hundred quid if you want though.
But as this original post proved, even expensive one's can go wrong!

I don't know what type Marina has but the only DVD recorders worth buying are the ones with a hard disk and they definitely cost more than £50.
