House warming gift

Postby gerryh » Thu Apr 24, 2008 1:16 pm

A Spanish couple will be moving into a house near me soon.
Is there any traditional Spanish gift that we can give them to welcome them to their new home?

Cheers

Gerry,
A sound regulated TV remote control could be a good idea...

They are a mature quiet couple. They want to live here because they are fed up with the noise where they currently live in Malaga.

Stop appeasing the spanish, they get embarrased and feel obliged to buy something back. Do you buy all the Brits and Moroccans gifts too?

Pardon?
I will buy a gift for any new neighbour, irrespective of nationality.
I like to try and be friendly and welcoming to everyone.

I'm with you Gerry it's nice to be nice and there's not enough niceness in the world today.

 Take them some english teabags, biscuits and/or a cake, if you can bake one then so much the better.

Would you like my recipe for an easy made banana & walnut tealoaf which you don't even need to ice. :?: :D

Do you know the exact date they are moving in Gerry?

If you do would it be an idea to put together a basket of the essentials they might need for the first few days? (Or is that a stupid suggestion on my behalf?)

Either way whatever you give them it's the welcoming nature of the gift that counts and I know I'd appreciate it.

I think maybe in the end it's the thought that counts - some help that is. But the idea of a cake/ biscuits or immediate essentials sounds pretty good to me. How good will it feel for anyone to be welcomed like that? Great stuff.

If I was moving next door to you I would like brand new 4x4 on the drive, nothing too flash, oh and a welcome pack of goodies on the back seat!!!!!!

How about a bottle of Cava that you can share with them to welcome them to the area.

Thanks to those who gave constructive replies. :D

A bottle of wine or cava and some cakes which we can all share seems to me like a good idea.

In the deep recesses of my brain think I heard once that tradition in Spain is to take cake round to new Mummy’s, because they are so busy with the new arrival that they don’t have time to cook.
This might be complete gobbledegook  , so has anyone else heard this before??
If it is true the husband might think you know something he doesn’t
