I went to a wedding last weekend, have another today and another in a few weeks time.
Seems like wedding fever is in the air.
Anybody have any good Spanish wedding stories?
One thing I do miss in a Spanish wedding are the speeches.
My Spanish Friend who is getting married in a few weeks time, is interested in adding a speech at her wedding as a novelty.
Only been to one Spanish wedding and the thing I did miss which I was looking forward to was the Spanish Grannies doing "New York, New York" when the disco finished Now that was a let down, most we got was a bit of carefuly carried out Salsa.
Would never do for my Auntie Rita
I find the wedding cakes so fascinating - sculptured works of art in sponge and chantilly cream - going off in all directions and angles, sometimes five separate cakes.
I asked a couple of Spanish friends at the wedding why they don´t have speeches and they both said, its just not customary to have them, unless of course you marry foreigner.
We have not done the pinning of money onto the brides dress but we have done the putting some money in an envelope. We had to put some money into a plain envelope and then place it in a basket. Much less of a shocker
Much better that way I think - better than ending up with 20 toasters. Most people try to give at least what the meal would cost - we usually give 100 euros.
There have been speeches at the weddings we´ve been to (Spanish couples) sometimes they wait until after the meal is over and get up on stage with the microphone. One occasion was just before the champagne toast.
We have been to 2 Spanish weddings and there was no speeches. We are due to go to one in 2 weeks time and there will be speeches from the brides (English) father but do not know if the groom or best man (Spanish) will.
As for the food we cleaned our plates only to find that all the Spanish left food on theirs and this happened at both weddings.
The ladies all got small gifts such as hat pins and an inexpensive personalised gift. The chap get cigars and extra time at the bar
we went to a wedding had a fantastic time, gave the usual envelope with 100 euros in it and a small present. Later on the grooms ties and the brides garter were cut into pieces and then offered for sale...lots of the older folks didn't like this but apparently it is an old tradition...
If you're not living on the edge you're taking up too much room
i liked that the party / live band went onto 5am and that the brides father had complementary trollies full of spirits passed round the room, that was after the 6 course meal and champagne and jamon de serrano reception! Must have cost him a bomb!! No speeches though !!
