Ondacero International
I have just heard from a neighbour that OCI (English) is to close on November 30 and just continue it's Spanish service, anyone heard anything?

i heard the same
Re: Ondacero International
Yes I am very sorry to say that OCI - Onda Cero International radio is closing. I was there last Tuesday morning to do my regular (last five years, from 14 different countries) weekly Internet news review. The staff have been told that the last live broadcast will be Friday 28th November.
I understand the reason is not necessarily economic (albiet there must be an economic influence) OCI is part of a very large Spanish media Company called Grupo Planeta (Antena 3, La Razon, Editorial Planeta) and one little corner of the empire did not quite fit in the portfolio.
Wishing the very best to the all the OCI team.

Re: Ondacero International
I honestly can´t say I will miss them even though it is the only local English Language station I can pick up! The quality of their programming is embarrasingly low. Their "presenters" are abyssmally poor, some can´t even speak English properly! So many of their programmes seem to do little more than provide a publicity outlet for so called "experts" on health problems, emotional problems, beauty etc.
Thank goodness for Internet radio!

I agree that some of the weekday morning programmes are abysmal but the music they play is excellent for background sound and the special music programmes that Terry Cleare does are excellent. I shall certainly miss them. Perhaps A.com fancies going into the music business; just choose the presenters carefully.

Yes, I agree. That description fits virtually every English language radio station on the coast. I, too, only listen to internet or satellite radio apart from a couple of favourite Spanish ones..masterob wrote:The quality of their programming is embarrasingly low. Let's go Brandon!
Re: Ondacero International
I shall miss Adrian Allen with the news and current affairs stuff, and the World Music programme: Pulse of the Planet. And Saturday and Sunday evenings won't be the same without the odd bit of jazz in between the plugs for Brian Parker, in case you missed that - Brian Parker, yes that's right - Brian Parker ....!

Re: Ondacero International
Further to this, but on a slightly different tack. I see there is an advertisement in Sur this week denouncing Barry Mitchell (ex OCI) as no longer working for REM FM...Is it me or do I sense a plot thickening

Plotting or Thickening?
Re: Ondacero International
Something similar to when M. Boland left the same Onda Cero!

Re: Ondacero International
Could a new radio station be on the way? I believe Mary Harbo has also left REM. I certainly hope so, haven't found another station I can listen to to replace OCI

Mary Harbo!! All I hear from her is interviews with health cranks and spritualists. Evertime I hear her in the car she is talking to someone who want's about a 1000 euro to put some hot stones on you aching back

Re: Ondacero International
You're not wrong. It is the same with Brenda P. on OCI. I can only asume that those who live on the coast have a lot more money to spend on that sort of thing than I do.
