Can anyone reccommend a coffee machine?
We are now looking to buy our 3rd in 2 years!!! Firstly we had a krupps one which we bought with us from the UK, we had hardly used it there but once used daily it didn't last too long We replaced it with a cheaper spanish one and have only used bottled water but alas, it now takes 1 hour to produce to cups of coffee
Hubby is fed up with having to take me out for breakfast and hearing me moan about the machine.....has anyone been using theirs for longer than a year

Hiya Daisylou, answering from our own subjective experience I'd have to plump for De Longhi everytime as a cheap but great allrounder.
We bought one about 10 years ago which made good espresso and superb Cappuccino thanks to its hot milk resevoir.
When that gave up the ghost only last year we went daft and bought an over rated Gaggia at far greater cost and in hindsight for its looks ..........it wasn't a match for the cheaper De Longhi especially in the Capaccini stakes and never wafted the smell of coffee around the house as its predecessor did.
Anyway we've just bought another later model DE longhi with the milk resevoir again and with 10 cup capacity for £80 just before Christmas...............bl00dy brilliant and the Gaggia is now a nice looking ornament on the worktop
It's one of the few things I've found where the "you get what you pay for" rule doesn't apply..........and I'm usually a believer in that rule.
Good luck with the purchase.

Thank you very much for your response
I have looked at the gaggia range....they do look lovely
Hubby and I both drink black coffee....we shall be heading towards the nearest supplier of De Longhi I think, I have some very nice new coffee cups waiting to be used

I have a magimix Nespresso Le Cube. They are expensive but the coffee is fab.
Re: Coffee machines?
Cafetieres are the easiest way to make coffee but filtered coffee is much healthier as it filters out diterpenes which are known to increase cholesterol levels (google it).
Try running some vinegar through it!!

Re: Coffee machines?
For black coffee we bought a Braun in the UK, still going strong after a few years. Brought a Krups over here and very pleased with it after a year. It has a thermos jug so the coffee doesn't "stew" on the hotplate. Once it has brewed you can take the jug where you want so handy in the summer for coffee outside. We haven't even descaled this one yet. Since we started getting sierra fria water from Lidl's nothing is scaling up.

Louise, sorry for delay in replying. We use tap water in the UK but if we used it in Spain we'd use bottled water as we do for most cooking purposes when we're there.
