URGENT MESSAGE Regarding El Padron in Mijas

Postby andalucia » Fri Aug 24, 2012 12:56 pm

Dear neighbour :
The National Office of Statistics has informed the Mijas Town Hall that 14.000 inhabitants may be removed from the "padrón" (official list of
inhabitants) because no modifications have been made by them in the past 5 years. Those who are not in the padrón are not considered inhabitants
of Mijas and as such, will not be able to receive any of the benefits offered, for example; reduction on the rates (IBI), social help etc... This will also
harm the Town Hall, as the Central Government of Spain will provide less money, less policemen, less public transport and less doctors, etc to the
Town.
The list of persons arranged in alphabetical order can be viewed on www.mijas.es. If your name is on this list please come to Mijas Town Hall
(either to Mijas Pueblo, Las Lagunas or La Cala) in order to update your registration (empadronamiento) BEFORE 31ST OCTOBER 2012. You only
need to take your passport and NIE number. This is free of charge and will only take you a few minutes. If you have any doubts, you can contact the
Mijas Foreigner's Department on 952 58 90 10 or via email [email protected] You can also take this opportunity to check your address and leave your
telephone and email.
The registration in the padrón (empadronamiento) has NOTHING TO DO with your fiscal residence, meaning that a citizen can be an inhabitant of
Mijas and remain a tax resident abroad. We insist on the importance of registering and urge everyone to be included on the padron.
Kind Regards

There are no Spanish names living in Mijas on the list?

Our local town hall has done similar checks. They were only interested in updating the list of foreigners.

Perhaps they will take the opportunity to remove all those people who don't actually live full time in Spain.

Only full time residents who have their "habitual" home in Spain are eligible to sign on the padron.

I don't think they want to remove people, that means less facilities :(
No soporto ver la casa sucia, ahora mismo me levanto y apago la luz.

You would think that wouldn't you but if they remove 14000 people they certainly won't get 14000 asking to be put back on because a lot of them aren't here any more.

If they were worried about how much money they were going to get then they should just let sleeping dogs lie!

Maybe, it's because the central government is making them do the updates. If a Spanish person has done it in Mijas but lives in Marbella now, then Marbella will lose out in taxes but not the government.

If a foreigner now lives back in their country, the local council is receiving money for someone who isn't paying any taxes.
