Hi, can anyone tell me where I can source (econo-heat) flat panel radiators.
Thank you, allgram.

I would try Leroy Merlin. They have a website so worth a look before travelling.

I have been wandering round various retailers recently trying to price compare wall mounting flatish oil heaters, it seems to me that we are still in summer as all I can find at present are A/C units - everywhere.

I bought six of them a few years ago. Waste of money.

I have to agree. They are hot to the touch but that's about it.

To be fair they are OK for bathrooms and an airing cupboard. Anything else - forget it! I'd try sunday car boot sales as well.

I agree - Briliant in small areas like a bathroom or small bedroom if you leave them on permanently.

You can not use then to heat a normal room ... they will give background heat only

They are a complete con.

They have the heat output of a large light bulb. The only reason why they are economical is because they produce a low level of heat.

They are also expensive for what they are which is a low power heated panel.

The most effective electrical heater is a fan assisted thermostatically controlled convector heater with up to 2kw of heat for about half the price of these rubbish panels.

Sid, I think it depends on how they are described. The one we bought, intending to bring out here (but is still in UK having got a butano gas heater instead), was described as a panel heater similar to this one http://www.hygienesuppliesdirect.com/pr ... prod117104 and cost about the same but in essence it is a slimline convector heater. It is being used by my sister in law and she says it is brilliant and heats up the whole room very quickly, also no noise of course.
We've tried a fan heater here and it was a complete waste of time, hence the gas heater which is superb and you know what the cost will be!

The one you link to is a proper 1500w heater.

The ones that have been described as useless are much lower powered. You would need about 6 to equal the power output of the one you have shown. They are sold as being economical - hence the name but the only reason they are economical is because they don't produce much heat - also I seem to remember that they weren't cheap either - similar in price to the proper heater you describe.

Here's an example http://econo-heat.com/aus/

I agree with Sid about the fan heater... the noise annoys me though.

We use these in a couple of cave rooms, one a spare bedroom the other the second bathroom and find them very effective and cost effective, but we start at a higher base temp and the rooms are naturally well insulated.
There is a couple who live near us and all they use are these flat panels, again all cave rooms and we have never been cold when visiting.

i bought a few of these last year (20€ each, 0.6kw) - i fitted one in the bathroom, one in each bedroom and one in the lounge.

we cant leave the bathroom one on with the door shut, it gets too hot in there. any closed room heats up to a good temperature (ie, noticable when you leave / return to it).

i like them. being "low power consumption" is also good for places where the electrical installation isnt so good - i wouldnt want to put a 2kw oil radiator on the old spanish wiring for example... but a 600w one would be a bit safer.

econoheat panel heaters
We got ours from bauhaus, they have them in Aki and Leroys, as previously said, they are not brill, but to take chill away, they feel hot to touch, I find they keep chill off okay.
not sure if they are economical, we use the superser gas heaters, with the gas canisters too, also from same stores mentioned, about a metre high , click ignition... Good luck
