I moved to Cajamar last year and have never been charged for cash transfers in or out or for anything else. They pay a nominal amount of interest on my credit balance.

I don't pay for anything with La Caixa.
Friend on another forum with Sabadell actually gets 'cashback' for every direct debit that gets paid through the account. Think he has to have pension paid in but there are no charges whatsoever.

How easy is it to swop your direct debits over to a new bank, is it as easy as the UK

I use c,aja de granada rural, no charges for DD etc.
We don't pay any regular amount in to the account, they do charge a small amount for the debit card every 3 months.

The new bank does it all. That's what is supposed to happen.marios wrote:How easy is it to swop your direct debits over to a new bank, is it as easy as the UK

It's absolutely outrageous a bank charging €2.50 per direct debit?
They are already taking a fee from the recipient as a commission and want to charge the payer as well?
I am with Unicaja and have a "plan cero comisiones" which means a free account.
It's a condition that you have a salary or pension paid in, then they prefer you to pay for items with the debit card occasionally, and sign up for Internet banking and use bank machines.

Is that a spanish salary/pension or UK?White Horse wrote: It's a condition that you have a salary or pension paid in, then they prefer you to pay for items with the debit card occasionally, and sign up for Internet banking and use bank machines.

I have an account with Unicaja and pay commision of 1 euro on my regular monthly transfer and 1.50 on my weekly one. The amounts are quite different so I wonder if that's the reason for the difference in commision charges.....
Re: Are there any banks that don't charge for direct debits
It matters not. Ask for plan cero comisiones in your branch.morlandg wrote: Is that a spanish salary/pension or UK?

We have our pensions paid into Santander and pay nothing for any sort of transaction - but to get the 0% you have to pay into the account regularly.

Same with me. The only charge I've ever had was for the renewal of my non-resident status.axarquian wrote:I moved to Cajamar last year and have never been charged for cash transfers in or out or for anything else. They pay a nominal amount of interest on my credit balance.

"I don't pay for anything with La Caixa."
I pay an annual maintenance charge with La Caixa (39 euros this year)and also pay an annual fee for my debit card ( from memory 23 euros ).
I suppose it is what you can negotiate, but personally I feel I should be contributing to bankers bonuses !

Bankia turns in record loss of 19.2bn euros for 2012

Spanish bank has 'negative value'
Spain's troubled Bankia - formed of the merger of seven floundering savings banks - has reported a record loss.
The bank, which received aid of 18bn euros, made a loss of 19.2bn euros (£17bn, $25.2bn) for 2012 and put aside provisions of 26.8bn euros.
Last year, Bankia and its parent firm, BFA, asked for EU funds to help rebuild its capital.
Spain's bank rescue fund said Bankia itself had a negative value, although its parent had some worth.
Bankia was born out of the merger of seven savings banks that were highly exposed to Spain's property sector, which crashed five years ago.
The Bankia-BFA group as a whole made losses after tax of 21.2bn euros in 2012.
Bankia's seven component banks were severely damaged by their loans to property developers and home buyers during the country's property bubble that ended in the late 2000s.
The bank's shares were suspended at the start of the year.

Right....
Looked up the conditions for "free banking" with La Caixa.
It is a "CuentaCero".
Can be had by depositing EUR 750 minimum per month which can be "payroll, pension, or Social Security receipts".
You need then basically do your banking online and use hole in the wall, as opposed to using the premises itself so as to speak.
