German Fire

Postby alicia » Sun Nov 03, 2013 10:32 am

Hi

I wonder if anyone could give me the benefit of their knowledge. A family member has offered to give me an electric fire which they bought whilst living in Germany and now no longer need. Before saying yes, I just wondered whether it would firstly, work in Spain and secondly, be safe. I assume the plugs are the same but that is all I know. Would be grateful for any info.

Thank you Enrique. That´ll do me.

I had just wanted to double check as I have confidence in the German side of things but always worry that Spanish side of things might not just be quite up to scratch.

But nice to hear that on this occasion they are. Well done Spain.

Just make sure that you have a high enough MCB(? - fuse/trip) on the circuit that you are going to plug it in to, and that you have sufficient potencia contracted - if it is, say, 3 kilowatt, that does not leave much of a 5kw supply for everything else in the house!

Hi Peter

Yes that is a thought. I had forgotten about that. The fire is 2000W. Electricity contracted I´m ashamed to say that I don´t know. Not sure. But thanks for reminding me .

Hi Alicia,
Unless you're way out in the Campo.....you will have at least 3.3Kw so you'll be ok........just expensive to run.....

...but only if you run it at full power all the time - if you only have it set, say with one switch (assuming it has 2 as most of them do), then you are only using half the power, ie up to 1000kw, depending on where you set the thermostat :)
