We were living in Spain before we became UK pensioners.
There was the option, on the form, if which country and bank where we wanted the pension paid.
Perhaps it's changed since we did it.
Phone Newcastle we always found them very helpful.
Just had a look at the website site and it says:-

"Your State Pension can be paid into:

a bank in the country you’re living in
a bank or building society in the UK"

Here is the link https://www.gov.uk/state-pension-if-you ... ad/payment

Cheers

There was no UK bank option included with my forms so I just returned the Spanish bank details form blank and included a separate note saying I wanted it pain into my UK bank. Went like clockwork.

I applied online a few months ago, and it was one of the options you completed. Mind you, its a very old system, you have to use XP, which i have a image of so that was no problem. However, I had to locate a version of Internet Explorer 6 !, before it would work properly. I think it would also work with versions of Firefox from around the same period.

Ditto :)

I originally had both pensions paid into a UK bank. A call to DWP and we transferred one of them to our Spanish bank. It has the advantage that there is no commission on the transfer.

We prefer to keep one payment into the UK so that we can transfer the money when the rate suits us.

UK Pension Agency (DWP) does use absolutely top exchange rates when paying into a Euro (Spanish) bank account - far better than having it paid into a UK account in sterling, and then paying the bank's transfer and/or exchange rates when personally transferring money to here.

DWP will take an instruction to pay into a different account (eg a Spanish one) over the phone, for immediate effect, which will be confirmed by them in writing later.

You also need to consider your personal Tax situation depending on your permanent Residency - any pensions paid into Spanish banks can be considered taxable income by Spain

They don't have to be paid in to be considered taxable income.

Of course they are - it says "pension" on the transfer paperwork.

As CapnBilly says they are taxable irrespective of where the money goes.
