Well, it seems my "a bit windy" was actually an overstatement. The maximum gust we have had today was 16kts - about a force 3-4 in met terms. It's taking to veer to the west now and is less windy. Let's hope the rain forecast is also less.

I like that Gerry. Think I'll forget TV tonight and just watch that!

Katy, for some people the threat of major storms here can deserve close watching. We have had life threatening floods here at this time of year a couple of times. We live high up on a mountain ridge so rain is not an issue, but the wind can be.

A few years ago we had some extreme winds. My anemometer (wind speed measuring instrument) self destructed when the wind exceeded 60 knots (about 70 mph). Shortly after it blew down the 60m2 wooden pergola (held up by 9 large brick pillars) over our car port and almost destroyed both cars.

Weather warnings here should not be taken lightly - I'm surprised you don't remember that from your time in Spain.

You could look on it as a blessing. This series has been pathetic. I keep seeing the Countess of Grantham in my local Waitrose, aka Maggie Smith. She was queing for a free coffee a few weeks ago. Anyway, enough of this frivolity, will it be 60 inches or 80 millimetros :D

Gota go along with El Cid on this one........sure I can see weather coming in 50km from the west and 60km to the North, but a days warning is good to get things secured and put away.

Didn't have Wickseys. problem with bowing windows in the high winds, as Builders behind schedule and no windows in upstairs............
All my best learning experiences start with a problem I need to solve.

Yes Sid, I remember our pool filling up with mud when we had about 120 mls in a half hour. Just tongue in cheek :)

A few years ago? 1969. The new mast was finished in 1970 and is still the tallest tower in the UK.

The weather was very kind to us in Malaga, we had a good day and got home in dry weather, too. A good old storm out there now, thunder, lightning, plenty of rain. Happy guests just gone to bed :)

We had surprisingly little wind - a maximum of about 40km/hr but it was very rough out to sea. Big thunderstorm in the middle of the night, but not as much rain as some places - only 16mm.

Yes same for me .... signal went off during Antique's Roadshow so watched much Downton on my laptop. I am always amazed that my usually flaky internet access works pretty well in storms.

Sky here was working OK and also Spanish TV as my OH watched the F1 on Antena 3. It was just the Intelsat that froze until about 10:50 when I picked up the last of Downton.

Thankfully the storms weren't half as bad as forecast although the lightning was spectacular. Heavy rain and winds in the campo can be very damaging

Just spent a couple of hours dismantling the wreck, next step offer it to neighbour for scrap.

I live on the other side of the mountain from Peter but my Weather station recorded an average Wind speed of 3 bft with 2 short gusts of 5 bft. Rainfall was 38 mm. The valley my house is in is well protected from the wind.

We get the same problem when there is rain around. It blocks the signal. The problem is that the 80cm dish is just OK in good weather, but loses the signal otherwise. The only solution is a 100cm dish , but I don't want to do that as it will probably blow off the wall! The signal through the big Sky dish holds on a lot longer.

If we lose the signal I go back to Internet Radio or the NowTV box for TV.

I also lost the Intelsat 907 signal last night. I'm using my redundant 1.2 mtr "Sky" Dish.
