Thing People Say.....

Postby Unicorn » Mon Feb 27, 2017 7:46 pm

I was in Carrefour today, buying one of their cooked chickens. The woman behind the counter insisted in answering my Spanish with English and, interestingly, she described the bigger'Gallo' chickens as 'country' chickens.

Does that mean the smaller counterparts are 'urban', town' or 'city' dwelling chickens?

It brings to mind the Basil Fawlty line of 'stating the bl***ing obvious'

like, 'architect-designed' house - as opposed to, say, a 'butcher-designed' one....

Any things anyone else has noticed?

Just for a bit of fun..........

I've always wondered what the alternative method of cooking is to 'pan-fried' - 'toaster-fried' perhaps ;-) ?

I suppose what she really meant was free range chicken.
I like 'Combinated plate', which I saw written in a bar once.

I understood that 'campo' chickens were free range so she is literally translating it to a country chicken I guess. I always hate it when I am handed a menu in English as some of the translations are so odd I cannot fathom them. I can understand a Spanish menu much more easily as some things just don't translate very well.

Whilst in Morocco I sent one of our local staff for a couple of fresh chickens………Before setting off he confirmed that I preferred Wild over Electric chickens………that would be free-range instead of battery.

On the other hand, better slaughter pig croquettes than a living pigs ones.
Although I can see why you wife was put off.

Some years back, I made the mistake of ordering a double portion of patatas fritas with a steak not realising that the Patatas fritas as on the menu were actually crisps. I ended up with a massive plate of steak and crisps. :(

Quite recently I saw a hostel that had rooms for rent with worm water in the bathrooms

I seem to remember someone describing years ago taps in French hotels
One of the taps was 'c' and the other 'f' - standing for 'cold' and 'freezing'......

Maybe the worm water would provide more comfort...........
