we have a house in Spain that we purchased in April last year and was advised by the estate agent to open a bank account with santander bank which we duly did. we had a 123 account which changed from feb this year and because we dont live in spain and have income paid into our account on a regular basis ie €600 or use our debit cards 6 times in 3 months we are being charged €8 per month which seems crazy €100 pa.. on top of that €28 for the debit
do all banks rip you of like this.
we come here twice a year for holidays dont rent it out our pension are paid in the uk and we just transfer enough fund to pay the DD's.
i would be most grateful if any one could advise us if all banks charge you this or general advise on how to get around these fees we feel that we are classed as easy targets and its very unfair.
bank charges in spain
Re: bank charges in spain
It's not uncommon for banks here to charge a service charge monthly . Cajamar here charge residents 8 euros per month just to have a current account

Re: bank charges in spain
If you are resident and pay in regular pension payments, most accounts are free. Banks are only prepared to do this for monthly credits and the use of other facilities like credit/debit cards, not the occasional payment.
People in the UK are used to free banking - it doesn't happen in Spain unless you are a very regular customer.

Hi bawnbue1,
Sounds about right....Caja Rural Group charge ...maintenance, and Debit card renewal...........and one you'll like.....not
Ever two years you have to sign a Non-Resident form and pay circa 30€ for the privilege............
I trust you know about the Form 210 Non_Resident Tax..............see FAQ's if you don't............
PS: Welcome to Holidaying in Spain..............

Solbank (Sabadell) charge the same (€24 per quarter) for a standard current account, €28 pa for a debit card. They have an account (Experiéncia) which is free of maintenance charges if you pay a pension in monthly. It also offers free deposit of cheques from other Spanish banks, and free international transfers (usually charged at outrageous percentages) - which is great for us, as we're getting out; we'll keep a pension paying in just long enough to transfer out every last damned cent without any charge, then close it and scarper!
Don't worry about what people think, they don't do it very often
